Default Article: Copyright liability for electronic postings

I came across this article this morning concerning copyright liability for electronic postings. It's brief and doesn't have a lot of detail but not a bad read. Think of this next time someone jumps all over you for posting an entire Bruce Dowbiggen article. Maybe they are concerned with copyright infringement AND good taste.

This article, I think, points to the archaic concepts behind copyright law. As an author you should want your work discussed and forwarded. To not be able to forward and discuss an interesting article via email denies the environment in which most people live. The concept is silly but the solution is beyond me. Thanks for the post.

Only fair use snips are ever allowed on most forums with a link to the published article. Its not copywrite to discuss the article, it is to re-publish it on any media not authorized by the publisher.

Especially with online advertising becoming lucrative, this or any other site could easily be litigated against if it was just reposting articles without consent.

IMO, any member who willingly posts an entire Bruce Dowbiggen article should also be brought up on the charge of cruelty to another human being.

If the author wants their work discussed and forwarded, they need to put better effort into telling their viewing public that it is OK to do so.

A legal disclaimer on the bottom of their blog or article saying "This article can be freely forwarded and/or copied/republished" would be a start.

You should have quoted the entire article in your main post imo.
