And then 4 people will watch as Jimmy Fallon laughs at every joke he tells, the next week.
(And I actually like Fallon!)

Yeah, I set Conan up on my PVR last week to watch the final shows. They've been showing an old clip every night, but it seems to me they haven't shown the truly epic clips (ie Triumph insulting the Star Wars geeks, etc).

Is Conan's show going to be the same in LA? Is Max and the band going with him? Can he do the same absurd comedy bits, or will it get watered down?

^^^ I'm sure it will be watered down a bit. The Jay Leno crowd sure doesn't laugh at the same things the Conan crowd does. The later shows you have younger viewers, and the regular late shows have an older demographic that doesn't like as risky/weird humor.
All that said I'm sure he'll make it a little like his own show. It'll probably fall somewhere between where the two currently are.

The Tonight Show with Leno as host will air in the 11:35pm time slot until Friday, May 29, 2009. O'Brien will then replace Leno on The Tonight Show the following Monday, June 1 from a new studio in the Universal Studios backlot, ending an era (since 1972) of taping the show in Burbank.

I agree, and I find it displeasing. I guess his interviews aren't usually that risque and I find them to be pretty top notch, so I guess that can stay the same. I'm really going to miss the masturbating bear though.

I'm hoping that to a certain extent he'll benefit from Jay Leno getting to stay around in an earlier time slot. That will take pressure off of him to take over Leno's demographic, and instead allow him to continue with his own style. Some of the less family-appropriate bits will need to go still, but hopefully a lot of the unabashed silliness will remain.

I like Conan - and have really liked his show since he made it his own a year or so into the run...but I gotta say, Craig Ferguson is better. Ferguson is pure gold and hopefully CBS realizes that....

Craig Ferguson's monologues are the stuff of legend. Especially the one where he decided not to do his monologue and just speak about alcoholism for 15 minutes straight!

It's not the last week for Tonight show. He'll continue through May, and then in June, he'll switch timeslots as Conan takes over the Tonight Show.

Oh, so Conan is just disappearing until June while they setup his new show? Brutal!

His move west to L. A., where he'll take over The Tonight Show June 1 in a freshly built studio that's twice the size of his current one, is cause for more jangled nerves. Bandleader Max Weinberg is considering a new contract, and as Bruce Springsteen's drummer he has a conflict with a summer tour. "We'd like him to come;we're trying to work it out,"says executive producer Jeff Ross.
But the rest of the band and many of the show's writers will follow along. O'Brien's wife, Liza, and kids--Neve, 5, and Beckett, 3--already have spent time in a new house in Brentwood, and he predicts the move will "have a pro-found impact" on the show
On-air last week, O'Brien ceremonially bade farewell to a host of recurring characters, including Shoe-verine (a sort of Wolverine with shoes on his hands) and the Masturbating Bear: "11:30 is no place for a compulsively self-pleasuring animal," he decreed. "Say hello to the more acceptable Bear Frantically Trying to Find His Cellphone in His Fanny Pack."

I heard on Fuel this morning that The White Stripes are going to get back together for Friday's Conan show.

That would be sweet, I enjoyed the orginal show they did.
Funny how they were saying goodbye to Masturbating Bear and then he was on again last night. He got chased off and went off into the sunset with Carrie Fisher with the "The End?". I'm sure we'll see him again this week.

RIP Tonight Show.
I give Conan 2 years before he is out of there. The guy doesn't seem like a fit for this show.

My prediction, Conan hosts the Tonight Show until he doesn't want to anymore.
