Butcher
Does anyone have any reccomendations for butchers in the southeast? I am looking south of Heritage and east of MacLeod.
Also, is there a difference between organic and free range meat. Can you have free range meat that is not organic?
Cheers

While meating both your criteria for south and east, this may be a little out of the way.

I forget the name of the shop, but it is within a few blocks of the location you desire.
Go north a bit on Macleod, to around 74th Ave, it is the same avenue that Thai Nongkhai is on. Turn right (east) and there is a nice butcher shop right beside the Thai restaurant.

Dana Murzyn had Mr. Meat in the SE, but I think it went under.

About all that the term "free range" requires is that the animal or fowl have some access to the outdoors. So yes, you can certainly have free range meat, eggs etc that is not organic.

And you can also have organic that is not free range. Free Range is a marketing term that actually doesn't really mean anything. In the US, I believe that if a chicken has access to the outdoors for 5 minutes a day they can be sold as free range. I believe for beef as long as they ate grass and lived on a range they can be sold as free range, however there are no regulations dictating the size of the range or the period of time they must live there. If you trust the place you are buying from I wouldn't worry about it (most domestic organic/free range people are good) but I wouldn't pay extra for any product with this designation that comes from out of country.
