Default Are my car speakers blown?

So I just replaced my old factory speakers with some new pioneers about 3 weeks ago:

I have this deck:

I think the deck is just your regular 50 W x 4 output. So I connected the speakers and they sounded great. I listened to them for a couple days and then I put in a Chili Peppers cd and heard a noise coming from the front speakers. It sounds like they are shorting out, not like the usual fuzzy sound I have heard from a blown speaker before. If you have ever downloaded a song and it is distorted with a sharp, annoying distorted sound, that is what my speakers sound like. I don't have any better ways to explain it.

It first happened when the volume was at 26, now it happens even at 21. It didn't happen with rap music, only rock but now it seems every kind of music. I noticed my rear speakers starting to make the sound now too. I didn't think they could be blown by my deck, as the sound wasn't distorted even at volume 26.

I was thinking (hoping) that it just may be my deck and it is not able to output enough clean power to them. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Dunno. This may sound dumb, but have you checked that they are still screwed in tightly?

Pull the speakers and run them off of another source.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

Yes, and they are. All the wires have been taped with electrical tape, so they aren't shorting themselves out. Not there anyways.

They kind of make a static noise or a shocking sound, and it is instantaneous not a long lasting sound. But of course it happens every few seconds.

Perhaps a dumb question... but you mention electrical tape. Do you have a mechanical connection to the speaker terminal or did you just wrap the wire around them? A shorting out sound may be the wires loosening and periodically loosing the connection.

The speakers came with a bit of wire with female ends on them to connect to the actual speakers. The other ends were just exposed wire, which I wrapped together with the wire from the car. I then taped up the exposed wires because I didn't have any caps.

So you didn't solder it, nor did you use butt connectors or anything? If you just twist and tape, they can come apart pretty quick in a car.

Ya, just twist and tape. I have never had any problems before, and something tells me it isn't the problem now, but I will check it out!
