Default Further Job Cuts Announced By Nortel

3200 more, on top of the 1300 announced in November when Nortel filed for bankruptcy protection.

There are about 32,000 employees worldwide and 6800 or so in Canada.

Employees will probably know by the end of March/early April whether or not they'll be the ones let go.

Nortel Networks Corp. said it will cut an additional 3,200 jobs worldwide over the next several months and cancel all bonuses due from last year as it struggles to chart a new course under bankruptcy protection.

The layoffs, representing about 10 per cent of the company's work force, will occur on top of a round of 1,300 cuts announced last November. North America's largest maker of telecom equipment filed for creditor protection Jan. 14.
