Default 2008-09 Calgary Hitmen/WHL thread

And so it begins tonight.

The league has dedicated the season to Ed Chynoweth's memory, and will have an on-ice ceremony tonight when Spokane opens the season in Kootenay.

The Hitmen open tomorrow against Red Deer. Should be an interesting season for Calgary.

I'm quite excited for the Hitmen opener. It will be the first game in my new season's tickets.

FYI the Chiefs/Ice game is on Shaw tonight.. 7:00 mountain.

I'm debating whether to drive to Chilliwack on Sat 'cause the Giants home opener isn't until next week.

The lack of WHL games on Bell is the only thing I miss from Shaw.

This'll be my fifth year as a Hitmen STH, so that novelty has worn off, but one more sleep till dome nachos.

Ok, I just tuned into the radio broadcast... how many bloody players do the Ice have suspended right now? I especially like the kid who's starting a seven game ban for an infraction he earned in Midget AAA last year.

8th year Rebels STH here. The team will likely suck again this year but the brand new shiny video scoreboard will be nice. Now we can have a replay of the opposition's goals at least!

Yeah, they will be improved, no doubt. TBH, the only way was up after last season though. Ferraro should be good and the new Finn, Kivisto, looks real good. First decent offensive D we've had since Dion. I'm looking forward to Jesse Wallin being the head man. But, when all is said and done, the main improvement boils down to our new million dollar scoreboard? Did I mention that yet? Sad really isn't it?

Big win tonight to open the season. Rebels played a great first 30 minutes, but once the Hitmen got going, Red Deer had no answer. Golicic was great. Back to back games vs Edmonton up next.

That was a good game.. yup.. bit of a slow start for the Hitmen.

Great to see Lowry get his first win as head coach.

Saw some people I hadn't seen all summer.. great to be back at the dome

what's the price on tickets to the Hitmen games? It's been years since I went to the game. Heck Pavel Brendl was still their star player at that time.

Giants start well, 4-0 win in Everett.

Ice traded their #1 from last year, Kris Lazaruk, to Kelowna for a conditional pick in 2010. Tough break for the guy, 'cause he was caught in a numbers game (the team is really high on both Heemskerk and Lieuwen in goal, and Laz is a 20), but not so much because he gets to play for the best team (on paper) in BC.

The Rebels better learn to kill some penalties quickly. 8 goals conceded in 2 games on 14 opportunities! 5 on 5 this team was good against both the Hitmen and Tigers.

Still they did manage to eke out a 5-4 shootout win against Medicine Hat in the 12th round of the shootout!
