This is an interesting article on how IBM selling off its PC decision and Microsofts use of the powerPC chip for XBox2 mean more than first meats the eye.

That is pretty cool.

So, look for MS to either release a version of DirectX that will work natively on Apple Computers, or the less likely alternative of just adopting OpenGL.

This could open up even more cross-platform development. Making Macs (at least) more attractive to gaming companies. With possibly Linux to follow.

Interesting, part of the Xbox's appeal right now is how "hackable" it is. By moving to all these proprietary standards it'll be interesting to see if the Xbox still maintain's it's appeal to the "prosumer" side of gamers.
