Default Clean your car's roof off..

So today I was driving on the highway when in front of me a sheet if ice about 3.5' X 2' (about 1.5" think) shot straight up in the air off the roof of a Honda CRV.

With only a moment to think I looked to move into the passing lane but there was a tractor-trailer, can't speed up I'll rear end the CRV, can't slam on the brakes as there is a car behind me.

So I just braced for it.....SLAM.....right in the a windshield, and a small dent on the front roof of my Ford Freestyle. Both me and my dog are fine, just glad my son and 5 month pregnant wife were not in the car as the passenger side took the brunt of the hit.

The lady pulled over and we exchanged insurance info, then I went and filed a police report. She asked if I can get a quote for the repairs and perhaps they will just pay out of pocket, she also mentioned they will pay for me to rent a car. She even said that she could hear the smash from inside her car in front of me as we were traveling at about 95 KMH. Overall she was nice about it. I checked and the body shop I use does not open until Monday morning to get a quote.

So the lesson learned today, CLEAN THE ROOF OF YOUR CAR PEOPLE!

Yikes. That's scary. Glad your okay.

My wife hit a full sheet of plywood on Deerfoot that got spun up by a truck last summer. Trusty Jeep KJ just split it in half but defiantly scary.

Agreed that it's good to see solid citizens out there. To bad we can't rack this act of doing the right thing to anybody in Calgary though.

Check the photo's....above ground power lines....He's not from Calgary, dude lives back East.

That is a bizzarre incident though. Snow on the roof of a vehichle can get that ice layer built up as the roof warms up and than you have smooth metal and than whooosh just slides right off. No doubt if you're going to be driving on the highway or at any type of speed you should brush all snow off your vehicle. Although, any chance that would end up under comprehensive insurance since it wasn't a collision with another vehicle. Glad to hear you and the dog are okay. I'm also surprised that no one has berated you for not driving an import yet, I'm sure it will happen thoough.

Argh! One of my (many many many) driving pet peeves. People too lazy to brush the snow off their cars. Sometimes when I see one of those lazy tools with their entire car covered except for the windshield wiper swath, I fantasize about running their car off the road and assaulting them with a hockey stick.

I was just driving up 14th st a few minutes ago and some twerp in a taurus almost smashed into me while changing lanes. How, you ask? Because he was too lazy to scrape the frost off of his windows.

Maybe the lady was concerned about ruining her paint job with an abrasive snow brush?

Thats nuts. Have to admit though pretty decent of her to pull over and exchange info and all that. Technically.. wouldn't this be just like a rock being shot at your car? Nobody is liable for that are they?
