Even some of the small towns around where I live sell them in convenience stores. Not chain stores, but "mom and pop" type of stores.
And yes, it's legal.

Vancouver comes to Calgary.
That's no rarity over here.
In fact, the store up the road from me, run by a very nice fellow who often has his 10 year old kid running the store for him, sells not only bongs, but digitial scales too - something almost exclusively used by drug dealers rather than users.

Yeah the Centex gas station in Dover has a selection, as well as all kinds of other stuff. The fake pop cans to hide stuff in are amusing.

Makes sense, this place is run by east indians and seems to be staffed by various family members, so it's definitly a mom and pop type store.

I thought it was only illegal if they come with screens? (which you just rip out of your bathroom faucet when you get home...) Or is that old dope-smokin-wives-tale?

Pretty sure that is a wives tale. Grass Roots gives you free screens if you buy a metal pipe. And their business cards are perforated so that they can be used to make filters for joints!!

As a kid I remember, while driving through Quebec with my family, stopping at a gas station/convenience store where they those air freshener things that hang from your rearview mirror with buck naked chicks on them.
It was like... what's that? Oh my god! Oh crap, my mom's coming over... look away... LOOK AWAY!

How does this make sense? what other purpose can they be used for?
This is like being able to sell a 44mag handgun but no bullets (ok a little extreme)

"tobacco accessories"
at least that's how i believe they market them legally. and i don't see the problem, almost every pothead has one friend that can MacGuyver a bong out of anything he gets his hands on so why not just make it easier

Controlled substance laws are pretty specific to the substance.
For crimes that require intent things like this could be used as evidence against you. The scale especially. If you get busted say with a couple ounces of weed. Having a scale could be what sets you up for the trafficking/intent to sell vs. just possession.

So it's okay for bongs to be behind the counter, but God forbid I see a pack of Cigarettes...

That's like saying Ziploc's should be illegal cause you put your coke in there. I know LOTS of people who smoke tobacco out of cheaply made bongs. Actually, no I don't. They are all pot heads.
Damn Tree Huggers.
