Default Alternatives to U-Haul??

Well, I may be moving back to Alberta in a couple months and will need a good sized van/truck to ship all my stuff.

Question: is there an alternative for self-drive trucks?

Otherwise, what are good moving companies?

Budget rents self-drive trucks as well, I believe.

my Father-in-law used Avis for his move a year and a half ago, and he said it went smoothly and was happy with it.

I'm not sure they have it in Ontario but I rented from a moving truck from Discount Auto. It was cheaper than U-Haul and the truck was new and really nice (it had A/C, which was great for a humid Montreal summer!).

If they have it where you are, I would recommed it.

I think United Van Lines has a service where you can have a container dropped off at your place that you load yourself. They'll come by later and pick it up and handle the shipping to your destination and drop it off for you to unload.

It's not cheap, but cheaper than movers and saves you the hastle of having to drive a large truck for a really long distance. I know some folks who had a container that was like 8x10x8 shipped from Red Deer to Moncton NB for like $3000 doing it that way.

Get a few quotes from moving companies to compare the costs -- I used AMJ Campbell when I lived in London. You pay by weight, but I found it was very comparable to U-Haul when you added up all the costs... especially if you need to move your car back, as you can load your car with the heaviest items.

Plus... they'll load and unload for you.

I used Enterprise.. or was it Discount... either way, I got a nice and new cube van (less than 1000 KM). Very good service and great vehicle. Pretty good price too, if I remember correctly.

Discount has been my best experience and I have recommended it to others as well with rave reviews.

In case anybody is wondering how this made it back up to the top, it was bumped by a spammer. The spam post was deleted.

I used Ryder a couple of years back. They were very good in accomodating me last minute after U-Haul dicked me around at the last minute.
