Thumbs up Iceland gets lesbian prime minister

Huge victory for the liberals and progressives out there, as well as of course the gay/lesbian/etc. community.

Until now, Ms Sigurdardottir - who was joined in a civil partnership with Jonina Leosdottir in 2002 - has been a popular Social Affairs minister. In one recent Gallup poll, 73% of respondents said they were satisfied with her work.

I'm warning you though, this thread is NOT useless without pics.

Such is often the case with real life lesbians. Of all the disappointments porn sets one up for, real life vs. fantasy lebians certainly is one of the greatest.

A left wing coalition in Iceland during an economic crisis. That isn't going to end well, I don't think. Not that Iceland could do much worse at this point.

Haha... given the "outrage" of the conversatives in Canada over the possibility of a left-wing coalition, imagine what it would have been like if Stephane Dion was an out-of-the-closet gay!

I don't think it would have been that big of an issue. By and large, we live in a fairly tolerant country. And even those among us who do have a big problem with gays likely aren't voting Liberal or NDP in the first place.

To be quite honest, I really don't think it would reduce anyone's opinion of him in relation to the whole coalition ordeal.

To be honest, right now I don't think that Icelanders give a crap about her orientation, right now its all about the economy especially there. She could be a three eyed 8 armed hell beast and most Icelander's first question would be, "Yeah, she's evil and eats babies, but can she protect my job and my pension."

Yep, that's the part of the article that we should be most concerned about. Time to move on...

I honestly think people who set store in identity politics are less intelligent than those who don't.

Yeah Iceland is in serious turmoil, I doubt they give a crap about anything other than her experience.

Might help with rights in other countries though. I know Iceland only has like 300,000 people, but when a first like this is made it can encourage others elsewhere.

I also doubt it would affect too many people other than the very right wing religious in Canada if Dion was gay. And I think there are less of those in Canada than the States obviously.

Which poster here was from Iceland? Perhaps they could fill us in with some updats on how the country is doing from a citizens perspective. I know there have been a lot of protests lately but I'm wondering how the average person is faring.
