Default DVD Player App

So starting yesterday my DVD Player app on my two and half month old MacBook starts playing the DVD then 7 seconds in it freezes and all I get is the spinning rainbow wheel for my cursor like its thinking, but not getting anywhere. I proceeded to downloaded VLC to try it and and it played the DVD find. So WTF is up with my app?

What program is it? That might help. Also, did you try uninstalling it then reinstalling the most updated version first?

It is the preloaded DVD Player application called DVD Player. Formerly Apple DVD Player,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_Player_(software)

VLC = good. OEM software with OS = bad.

Buy a PC

I have this issue with windows too. My newly bought American Psycho DVD won't play on Windows Media Player but it will on VLC.

The reason for that is that some DVDs have copy protection on them and it will prevent you from playing them on computers. VLC somehow gets around that protection. Is the drive in your Macbook a burner? It might be detecting that and preventing you from playing it in regular software.

The thing is that before last night it worked fine with the same DVD...

What about Front Row? Does that still work?

I never use the DVD player, I always watch my movies in Front Row.

It seems to be, I just used the other app because thats what instantly started up. So if its working in other program am I correct in assuming that I do not need a new disc drive?

Right. Honestly, I've only ever used DVD Player once (when I got my first Mac) to see what it did. Other than that, it's been Front Row all the way for watching DVDs.

I have VLC too, but I find Front Row (with the remote control) is a much better experience.

Err... Which free iPhone app? You mean iTunes Remote?

Did you not get a little white remote control with your macbook? If you bought it used and didn't get the remote, I think you can get one from the Apple Store for like 20 bucks.

Oh nice. I had no idea there was a Front Row remote app for the iPhone. I'll have to look into that...
