If anyone has any feedback about this course it would be much appreciated.

Holy crap dude, I think we're in the same course. Is Campbell the one who talks like she's a buffering youtube video? If so, I'm in the same one you are...that's weird. Anyways, enough drunken rambling...so far it seems like a dumbed down version of 203 to me...at least from the first few classes...

This is law and society 201? Come on, you are going to graduate and a 1st year course is giving you something to hesitate about? If you are about to graduate you should know the tricks of the trade - ie: You don't need to read everything. :P
To be honest, I took that class and barely skimmed the readings for every lecture, many of the readings I never read at all and just faked it, like 1st/2nd year english courses. Hell, I was still doing that in 4th year courses, neglecting to read anything at all by the time I got there
Don't take my advice though. I'm just saying, that if you are smart and creative, you don't neccessarily need to read, or just learn to speed read or speed skim. I know I have LWSO books in my basement that I bought and never ever cracked open.

I always sought to find that perfect point of intersection of maximized mark and minimized effort when it came to university. There were courses where I bought the reader but didn't open it once and others that I didn't even buy the reader.
It was tough to balance working 30 hours a week and being a full time student. I did alright though.

In graduate school , there is so much reading that you have to pick tricks to reading... Why read the whole book , when you can just read parts.... The trick i learned is to read the introduction about 4 times to get the jist of whats going on.... then read the 1st and last paragraphs of the chapter.. then read the 1st and last sentence of every paragraph... Once you get it down you can fly through books in no time flat....

Also try to get up to a reading speed of about 30 seconds a page. That way you can easily estimate how many minutes you need to finish reading something. IE: A 60 page chapter will take you half an hour.

I took LSWO 201 in 2000 so my comments may be a bit dated.
1. There was a buttload of reading but, when compared to other courses I eventually took, it was a breeze.
2. The course was full of people who liked to talk and who liked to hear themselves talk. It was also a rather large lecture considering the subject matter so there were a lot of talkers. That being said, there were marks for class participation and I did not get those at all.
3. I took four law-related courses in my undergraduate degree (including this one) and all four were in close competition for the lowest grade in my undergraduate career. While this class didn't dissuade me from going into law, I could not drop my Law and Society major fast enough.

That is the way to do it. I remember I wrote a book report and all I did was read the first couple and last couple paragraphs of each chapter, the intro and the conclusion. The book was an 800 page monster and I aced the paper. Although, I have to say, I never picked a book that long ever again.

Also, it appears that in the class she posts basically a summary of each reading on Blackboard. So I'd say screw reading them completely and just go to class if you feel like it.
