Default 2008/09 NFL Playoff Thread

Well after a whacky but entertaining season lets get the dance rolling.

A special thanks to Detroit for completing what I didn't think was possible, a team going 0-16, even though my dolphins came close last year.

I also give a special shoutout to my Dolphins who have returned from the dead eventhough it may be only for one year because of the deathly schedule we get next year and a healthy Pats team to contend with again.

AFC

6. Baltimore Ravens (11-5) at 3. Miami Dolphins (11-5)
Dolphin Stadium, Sunday, 1 p.m. (CBS)

5. Indianapolis Colts (12-4) at 4. San Diego Chargers (8-8)
Qualcomm Stadium, Saturday, 8 p.m.

(NBC)Byes: 1. Tennessee Titans (13-3), 2. Pittsburgh Steelers (12-4)

NFC

6. Philadelphia Eagles (9-6-1) at 3. Minnesota Vikings (10-6)
Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, Sunday, 4:30 p.m. (Fox)

5. Atlanta Falcons (11-5) at 4. Arizona Cardinals (9-7)
University of Phoenix Stadium, Saturday, 4:30 p.m.

(NBC)Byes: 1. New York Giants (12-4), 2. Carolina Panthers (12-4)

My predictions are as follows

First Round
Dolphins
Colts
Eagles
Falcons

Second Round
Steelers (Hoping Dolphins)
Colts
Giants
Panthers

Conference Championships
Steelers (Hoping Dolphins)
Panthers

Superbowl Champs
Panthers (Hoping Dolphins)

P.S. GO DOLPHINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lets discuss!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm still in shock at how the Colts are not going to be flying to denver to play next week. About 3-4 weeks ago looking at the standings I thought it was an absolute lock we'd see Indy at Denver but somehow the Broncos blew it. Going to be a very tough game as the Chargers match up very well against Indy. The Colts have gone in there and won this year and are the hottest team in the nfl without question. So should be a hell of a game

If Flacco can play steady football..watch out for the ravens. They matchup with every team in the league

Any word on Roethlisberger's injury? After all the hype of Tennessee and Pittsburgh, it's looking like 5th seed Indy is the team to beat in the AFC.

And in the NFC, the Giants are still the favourites.

Could we possibly see Manning v Manning in the superbowl?

All 4 games seem like they should be good matchups. In the NFL that means good chance that they all turn out to be laughers. I'll say the Ravens and Colts both go on the road and win, but I think they should be close games 30-28 for Indy and Baltimore wins 17-14 against the Fish. In the NFC I'll say Eagles 24-10 over the Vikings as a couple turn overs sway that game, and the Cards who are much better at home pull out a 35-34 win over the Falcons.

Well the Vikings don't seem to be getting much love in this thread not that I blame people. I think they have a shot but Jackson will need to show he's willing to throw the ball a little. I'm guessing we will see lots of play action and maybe an increased amount of Chester Taylor making catches out of the backfield.

4 for 4 on the road.

Ravens - Love to see the Dolphins win but the Ravens D shut them down. Win by 3-6.

Colts - Closest one of the week. Chargers hot and cold all year, cold next week. Win by 1-3.

Eagles - Vikings another team that plays up and down, but I don't think ready to take that next step. Eagles have been there before and McNabb in ideal conditions is better then Jackson. Win by 7-10.

Falcons - Cardinals backing into playoffs the last 4 weeks, won the NFC West by default. Could be a shootout, but the little I've seen of the Falcons looks to be a more well rounded, consistent team on both sides than the Cardinals who are Warner+ 2 receivers, and have 6 of their 9 wins vs the useless Rams, injury decimated Seahawks, and the inept 49'ers. They went a pathetic 3-7 outside the division, with only 1 win all year against a team that made the playoffs (Miami week 2). Win by 10+.

More about that Jim Johnson defense against Tavares jackson...it just looks like no contest right now.

Yup, even as a Viking fan, I have to agree. I'm just hoping that Childress has a plan against his own team, but really, no one can predict what Johnson has planned for the Vikes.

All I know is Chester Taylor and Adrian Peterson should be used extensively next Sunday.
And hopefully Pat Williams is back, even though Philly doesn't run much, we've been subpar without his giant presence in the middle.
And AP better work on protecting the ball, these Philly defenders will be trying to rip it out all day.

I don't think the Eagles are that good but with Jackson at QB the Vikings are bad and the Eagles defense is about the worst defense that Jackson could face. Considering he can't read defenses at the best of times and looks moronic with an average blitz in his face the Eagles should absolutely kill Jackson next week.

I am not sure who the Vikings 3rd stringer is but I can't imagine he is much of a worse option than Jackson at this point.

Eagles certainly have the talent to lose this game but with Tavares in there for the Viking I would bet he will suck worse than the Eagles.
