Default Canadian Firearms Safety Course

Any recommendations on where to take it in Calgary? I am only interested in the non-restricted course.

My brother took it at ITTA and it was $120 for non-restricted and $120 for restricted. I see that AHEIA offers it for free but accepts donations. Anyone know if there is a difference between the two courses?

If you have a Rod and Gun club in Calgary they would know the dates of the various courses. I would recommend taking your restricted rather than your unrestricted. Even if you have no plans of using hand guns for target practice it is good to have. You never know if in the future some of your rifles might be placed into the restricted category. Restricted is just as easy as unrestricted to pass.

My recommendation it that you take both. That way if ever in the future you want to own a restricted weapon you don't have to take the course again.

It was $200 for both at the shooting edge when I took it. One day course. Pretty simple and easy.

I'm pretty sure a restricted licence allows you to own unrestricted weapons as well.

You have to do the un-restricted first to be able to do the restricted.

I did mine through a qualified friend of a friend. A few of us did the whole day thing. Fun to get to play with all sorts of gun types.

A one day course is what I'm looking for. It's only offered here over the course of a couple of evenings...

I took mine through Aheia, they do it free but I have them a $75 donation, which is still cheaper than most other places.

Good class, and you get to handle all the different types of firearms.

Take both btw.

I also took mine from AHEIA and I highly recommend them. The instructors were excellent. I don't know what it cost though because my work paid for it.

Call Pro Line Shooters in calgary 403-265-6666. They usually have a firearms course once or twice a month and its pretty cheap I think about 65-70 dollars. You wont be dissapointed and you wont get treated like a child by some no nothing instructor.
