Default Another "virus?" thread and help question...

So I'm not that bright with the old computers there. I've got AVG free 8.0 on here already, ran a scan and it said I had a potential key stroke worm or something? sorry, I didnt think to get screenshots or write it down. Anyways, computer restarts, then when I try to access the internet again it takes me to a screen that says basically

"Due to insecure internet browsing you're at risk of worms, virus' etc etc" and wants me to get some software, had "soft" in the title, other option is "surf unprotected" (not recommended)". It says something about shield protection. Anyone have a half a clue what I'm talking about or any help ideas? I've got a gateway w/ regular windows, no vista

My only change from my "standard" surfing has been going to Justintv and yahoo sports to watch flames games.
Thanks in advance

OK, so the exact message that comes up when running my AVG scan:

Security center alert
To help protect your computer, windows firewall has blocked some feature of this program
Do you want to block this suspicious software?
Name: Win32.Zafi.B
Risk Level: High
Description: Zafi.B is a worm trojan program that records keystrokes and takes screen shots of the computer, stealing personal financial information

The "Keep blocking" and "unblock" buttons are greyed out, and the only option i have is to "enable protection" or close out the window. Following message at the bottom:

Windows firewall has detected unauthorized activity, but unfortunately it cannot help you to remove viruses, keyloggers and other spyware threats that steal you personal information from your computer

Then there is a link to "click to download and activate protection"

I'm waiting with bated breath for an answer. Help me CP, you're my only hope.

Edit: Also, the AVG scan does not show any issues when it completes. if it does, it has now been running for 53 minutes.

Looking a bit on the web, it seems this comes from emails. The only ones I've gotten that i don't trust are weird ones from Lake High School in Chicago. which is odd because, well, I live in Denver. I just delete them w/o opening. How should I handle those?

Sorry for the long posts and updating, but I know jackola about this stuff and just want to get this damned computer working again.

get into safe mode (press f8 before the xp splash screen comes up, usually, right after the bios info disappears) and then run both the avg and something like spybot search and destroy, spyware terminator, or other spyware prog.

I don't have any of those spybot deals you mentioned. I've left this security alert open. is that something i should close with task manager? do i need to download the spybot deal and if so, what or where would be the best place to look. thanks.

Well on reboot, my explorer cut me off again, the link took me to safesoft, and wants me to downloan perfect defender 2009. And that stupid security center alert is still popping up. I hate computers.

Perfect Defender 2009 is malware that is posing as security software. This this tool from microsoft should be capable of removing the malware.
