OBJECTIVE:

Pick your all-time Flames starting lineup, consisting of 1 goalie, two defencemen, and three forwards. For draft purposes, I won't differentiate between LW, RW and C, although a balanced line will never hurt come playoff time. All players must have played at least one NHL regular season game with the Calgary Flames (i.e. no Atlanta Flames, no preseason, no prospects, etc.). PLAYERS WILL BE ASSESSED BASED ON WHAT THEY ACCOMPLISHED IN CALGARY (i.e. you can't pick Grant Fuhr and get the guy who won five cups, only the older, washed up version).

RULES:

Thread title will display the next 3 picks; time limit is 24 hours per pick.

No trades. It's a mini draft with only 6 picks each

No switching. There are no categories so I'm thinking most players will only have one position.

When you are selecting please state in BOLD letters your pick and his position. Done and done. Feel free to brag about who you picked and why he'll make your team the CP Cup Champion.

In order to add more depth to the rosters, I'll be adding a "supplemental" draft at the end for UFA's... depending on who's left, each team will be allowed to pick 2-3 more players, so you'll have a chance to add some more grit, toughness, character, leadership, etc without having to put him in your starting 6. These supplemental picks will be first come, first served, when UFA season opens (hopefully at a mutually agreed upon time).

Okay, I will try again...

There have been so many great Flames over the years. So many that I would happily pick first. Sometimes we view the more recent Flames as the better ones, we forget just how good some of those old guys were. Despite saying that I will draft a Flame who is current, who is far from done, and who I think we will look back 30 years from now and say,

"He was the best of all time."

Team Pelawa-Renaud is thrilled to select a captain for all time, #12,

Jarome Iginla

Obviously in one of the F positions. More than just points, Iginla is a leader, a physical force, a great sport, a fine example, and a great citizen.

I won't list his statistics, as for one we all are aware of them; but secondly what Iginla brings to the table is worth so much more than that.

well, using players that only donned the flaming C, with such a small sample size, and given how awful it was at times, its hard not to select third overall,

Goalie, Mike Vernon

Though his second go round was pretty pitiful, when he started his career he was great. Leading the Flames to a Stanley Cup final berth in 1986 as a rookie, he would continue to play in Calgary until 1994, before eventually being traded back to Calgary in 2000
Eventually most of his stats as a flame will be surpassed, but he lived the dream and won a cup with his home town team in '89. He is currently one of two players to have his number retired by the club

Yeah it was between MacInnis and Vernon for me.. if I had taken Vernon, Czure would have taken MacInnis I would think.

I think with a smaller batch of drafters, AK's should happen more frequently.

First three picks, most likely the best forward, defenceman and goalie are off the board...

Sorry for the dumb question, but what does AK mean?

but you could probably nab Joel Bouchard!

While if Chopper was available, it would have been tempting, I was choosing a goalie at 3rd no matter what...
because really after the top two, it drops off quite a bit for their contributions in the flaming C (though #3 IMO wasnt too bad either)

I put the Flames icon next to this thread so it would be easier to track and not get confused with the other hockey draft

The last pick was made at 2:58 CP time, so only a few more hours before you can select 4th overall

I'm kinda hoping he jumps on here and posts, cause there's two players I have in mind, and I'd rather take the one that isn't taken, cause either one could go 4-5.

That would work most days save for when I work over 14hrs and am just not paying enough attention.....last night I was marginally above "doorpost/George W Bush" level intelligence.

(Not that I mean to insult doorposts or anything....)
