Yeah, this is a strange rumour. Toronto gives away arguably the best player involved (as well as one other serviceable player) and gets back probably the worst player in the deal (once you factor in Hardaway's health).
"TNT reported the Raptors are involved in trade discussions with Minnesota, New York and Miami. According to TNT, Rose could be headed to the Knicks for veteran guard Penny Hardaway, while Marshall plus Eddie Jones could go to Minnesota, and Latrell Sprewell to Miami."
Just the way the trade is described here, it's really two trades: Rose for Hardaway straight up, and a three way where Minnesota loses Sprewell and aquires Jones and Marshall, Miami loses Jones and aquires Sprewell, and Toronto loses Marshall and aquires nobody in return. Just doesn't make any sense at all from a Toronto perspective. I'm guessing there are draft picks going to Toronto as well, but even so, I don't see it working.
