Calgary Stampeders fire Matt Dunigan and Ron Rooke on Thursday

CALGARY (CP) - One day after buying the CFL team, the new owners of the Calgary Stampeders cleaned house Thursday.

President and CEO Ron Rooke and head coach/general manager Matt Dunigan were fired. Both had two years remaining on their contracts. The Stamps struggled to a 4-14 record last season.

It didn't take the new ownership to clean house! Although we all knew this was coming. How long until they introduce Tom Higgins as head coach and GM?

Rooke out and Jim Barker back in??

Yikes...dunno about all that.

Former Calgary head coach Jim Barker, who was fired by Rooke just days before Christmas in 2003, is reportedly in line to manage the team's personnel while former Eskimos head coach Tom Higgins is the front-runner to become the next head coach.

Rooke has been a loyal Stampeder employee, regardless of who owned the team.

Not sure I understand this particular move at all.

Great move by the new owners. Rooke had been good up until the past couple of seasons where it seems he liked the idea of power and began making strange moves.

I hope they bring Higgins in as GM and either him or Creehan as head coach.

I don't mind if Barker is brought in as a personal type guy either. He can't so any worse than Gorrell/Dunnigan did last year.

Rooke was a great marketing guy, but made questionable moves as President (firing Barker at an inoprotune time, bringing in Dunigan in the dual role), and I doubt he'd be interested in a demotion. As well, you probably know better than I do that new owners like to bring in their own guys to run the show, and probably didn't have much faith in Rooke to do it.

Barker should be a great Personnel guy, so long as he doesn't give Lawrence Philips another shot.

Possible HC Scenarios: Higgins as HC. Also read that Creehan can be HC with Higgins in more of a management role...should find out soon enough.

edit: tomorrow there's a Press Conference at 3:00, where things should be announced

Roucke's out so Schwartz can come back. I'd take Schwartz over Roucke any day, Barker CLASSY GUY..and Higgins is just an amazing coach, maybe the best in the cfl.

On QR77 this morning John Forazni said that they wanted to announce the rest of the plan on Friday - the new management team and such.

One story about Ron Rooke. It's game 6 of the SCF. We're in our seats waiting for the game to start. Someone says "excuse me fellas" to me and my friend. I look and it's Ron Rooke and Old Man Feterik themselves. Blue glasses are a dead giveaway. They end up sitting down about 6 seats away.

Thing is. I'm in mid way up 219 and I didn't see them all season. I thought it was telling how much the Flames mgmt liked when those two couldn't get better seats. I would have expected some sort of quid pro quo arrangement between the two clubs for owners and mgmt.

Thought about letting loose a few "You suck Feterik!"s go but elected to join in a GFG chant instead....

Good times....

Maybe Daddy Feterik and Smithers sold their better seats on Ebay?

Dunigan didn't come cheap!!

Besides..cheap seats rule!!

Its a little late, but this ----> :geek: should be in every Ron Rooke related thread.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.
