Default The New Years Fitness Resolution Thread 2009

So, I've got about $600 in my budget for 2009. Should I go for a gym membership or just buy another piece of equipment? (Already have a treadmill and some free weights at home.) As I tend to work out at 10 or 11PM, I am thinking of getting a cycle of some sort?

I would join a gym that has a pool within 5km from where you live and ride your bike to and from your work out for your warm up and cool down. Like your money diversify your work out's and your body will pay you dividends that can be reinvested into your life. I love to bike, swim and run and along with weight workouts this rotation seems to keep me interested and progressing towards my goals! Good Luck and Good Health in 2009!

Stationery bikes aren't that great - go for an ellipitcal instead.

A resolve to achieve a better work/personal life balance in 2009.

We have a free gym at school.. I'd resolve to actually go once in a while but I'd probably just be lying to myself...

All the same, would like to up my weight about 15 lbs, and not by eating Twinkies.

so many do the same too. membership or equipment,, its easy to let it sit in a corner or slide, i know the do the same too.

suggestion: use the money to join some class or club or group that does things together, its usually motivation that you need to get over and not accessibility

I've built a gym (Gym whats a gym?) at home with free weights and a treadmill. I prefer to work out at home alone as oppossed around other people.

I lost 35 pounds last year. I'd like to lose another 20. Right now though, I'm having problems with my motivation.

My free gym is about a 15-20 minute drive from where I live. It just seems so silly to drive all the way out there and back only to use a treadmill once I'm there. If the weather was willing, I'd much rather just run partway there and back.

Plus I freaking hate gyms.

I plan to lose the remaining 20 pounds I have to lose. I lost 20 last year...well through the first half of last year until I suffered, using NHL lingo, an "upper body injury". I pretty much stopped most everything until I was done physio as it hurt like hell to do anything other than ride a stationary bike. And that isn't much of a workout. I'm happy to say i've kept the weight off that I lost so now it's a matter of getting back into the routine.

How about a running clinic. That's how I got off the couch last year. I started out at level one (people who could not run at all), and there are four levels in the class. I'm still working up my time running, it's slow progress for me, had some lapses, but the group thing helped.
I've been slacking off since September now, so I think I will join again in the January class, just to get myself going again.

I'd recommend adjustable bench, it's great for many different upper body exercises (chest, back, triceps etc.) and it's cheap.

Stationary bike is useless since you already have a treadmill. You should not focus primarily on cardio anyway, if you must however, treadmill is plenty, no need for another cardio machine.

Personally, I train both at home and go to the gym for exercises that can't be done at home. Works the best and saves money.

Or Fatty O'tubs Crunch. Having a picture of what you once were and never want to be again is just as good motivation.

I'm wanting to lose the 15 pounds acquired in the last year....after having dropped 30 the year before.

That's great...best way to get in shape -- play group sports or join something with a friend. You'll be working out but you'll be having fun.

I started to play hockey twice per week instead of just once and I quickly noticed the impact. I'm down to my lowest weight in 6 years... well this Christmas season may have ruined that but in a couple of weeks I'll be back to my lowest weight.

Damn these new year resolutions. Everybody trying to get into better shape makes the gyms really busy for the month of Jan. It goes back to normal in feb. once everyone gives up!

Agreed!

I hate resolute-rs. They make my daily activities a much more difficult time. I yearn for Mid February when most of them peter off.

That said, I wish you all good luck!

Mine... Umm, continue on my "injury treatment" running plan.

Getting over some injuries and have to try to not do "to much"

During the summer I was in the best shape of my adult life, but like years past once I'm back at school I fall off the wagon. I didn't gain much weight but lost whatever tone and strength I had.

I just tweaked my school schedule so that I can get too the gym at least 4 days a week, hopefully more. I'm going to start eating right again, I had a good diet in the summer eating a good balance of protein, carbs, and fats in smaller portions every 3 hours or so.
