Ok techno-geeks, I'm buying an mp3 player, and I want to know which kind I should buy.

Basically its just for driving to and fro work, and maybe working out (whenever I start doing that). I want it to be as cheap as possible, as good as possible, and able to fit as much as possible. Figure out the best combination between these (maybe w/ an emphasis on low-price).

GO!

I think CD-MP3 players are still a hell of a good deal. They are a little bit bigger than your ipod like mp3 players, but they still fit a good amount of music on them, and are cheap as well.

I have to second the cd-mp3 players... just get a few cd-rw's and away you go. However, if size is a problem for jogging/working out or something, then look at the new IPod that's the size of a package of gum. It would probably cost the same as one of the high end cd-players.

Yep, thats the issue. If I want to jog or work out, it has to be pretty skip-proof, which sort of leans towards mp3's and not cd/mp3's.

I'd like to keep the amount spent under $150, but I'd also like to be able to fit more than 10 songs on the thing.

I have a 128MB mp3 player, it isn't much space but still fits 22 songs, besides if I want to add some other song there will always be a song that I get tired of. It cost 80 bucks at future shop but you should probably shop around to find a better deal.

Future Shop has all kinds of MP3 players, but I wouldn't get anything that has less than 128 Mb of storage. I have one at home (can't remember what kind) that I use when I jog because it's light. It holds 18-22 songs, so it it works OK for anything I'm doing that's around an hour in duration.

Mini discs are pretty neat too, my girlfriend uses one when she's at the gym. Each disk holds about 2 albums on it, and you can change them in and out depending on what you want to listen to. They're around $200 bucks though.

Get an iPod if you can afford it.....I just got one at Christmas and I use it @ the gym, in my truck when I'm driving, on the slopes, even at home when I'm bored. They're pretty cool.

I'm not sure if it's changed or not, but isn't it illegal to drive with headphones on?

If you are considering the IPOD..look into the creative zen micro. 5 gigs with a FM tuner and a removable, rechargable battery. I think it's better then the Ipod mini

It worked in my bathtub. It was actually louder underwater then above, but I guess that's kinda how the technology works.

Although I'm embarrased to use it, I just got it today and feel like a tool... Hopefully I'll take it to the pool one day

Yup.. it is. Most people I know with ipod also got the iTrip with it. It's a FM transmitter that can be played by any car's stereo. A great idea!

I have this:

CURTIS MP128

It's awesome, I got it for $50 on Boxing Day and it's been everywhere with me ever since, I converted my entire MP3 collection into WMA and I can fit over 120 songs in it, more than I'll ever need. My best boxing day buy ever.

EDIT: Uses 1 AAA battery, I recommend Pure Energy rechargerable AAA (get a four pack from Superstore for <$6 and a charger if you don't have one already.) One charge will last over 15 hours of consecutive playing.

There are various converters if you sniff around, I downloaded Windows Media Encoder 9 from Windows Update, it's awesome, WMAs are typically <1.6MB for a 4-minute CD-quality song compared to 4-5MB for MP3s, my WMA sounds exactly like my MP3s on my player, no difference in quality but big difference in size B)

Ahhh... Thanks a bunch Incinerator. I knew there would be something free out there. I was thinking of downloading Musicmatch but damn, its 24 MB. Thanks again.

Just tried it, works great but only downside is that you have to do it one by one. Oh well its a small price to pay.

Hey I got one question. I just tried converting a song that was 5.76 MB. When it was finished it came up to 5.50 MB. How did you get your files so small? I am probably doing something wrong, there were al these options I have no idea what I was doing.
