Doesn't look like tag, looks like the guy's running for his life. As he should.
Sorry, but bears are bad. Grizzlies too. I am not a person who feels bad when bears die. They will kill you any chance they get.

They should have made him into a wall rug. Theres a reason the Inuit carry guns everywhere.. Polar bears actively hunt people.

Only when they are starving and can't find any other source of food.

I'm pretty sure they are opportunistic predators.. I doubt one would decline the chance to eat you.

That's not true. They often come into towns looking for ANY kind of food. If they are hungry they will take what they can get but most times they get scared off by humans and dogs.
My information is first hand as I scared one off earlier this year. If it wanted to eat me it could have but instead it turned around and bolted.
We had one come into town a few weeks ago and all it wanted was the dog food. It didn't eat the dog right next to it, just wanted that food. There is a very good reason why most huskies stay outside in the North. They are great warning dogs for polar bears and can usually scare them away.

I could see them being wary of human settlements.. I meant out in the wilderness where they have been known to stalk people.

Just to clarify: The one I scared off was about 5KM from the town. The direction I scared him there were people fishing and he didnt eat them either.
Are they dangerous? Yes. Do they stalk people? I don't think so. The bears are looking for food but they are looking more for whale carcasses or buried "aged" meat.

Would you travel alone on foot outside of town without a gun??
Not trying to start an argument I'm just curious.. I guess it probably depends on a bunch of things.. Time of year, individual animals. I've just heard they are pretty dangerous and are one of a handful of animals that will hunt people. Wiki says hungry polar bears are unpredictable and have been known to hunt and kill people.

Hard to say. Every time I go out I either take my ATV or I have the dogs. To answer your question, probably not. BUT I am more worried about me coming up on a bear rather than having a bear come up on me.
If they stalked people they would be killing many people every year yet no one has died.
Like I said, they are looking for old whale or buried meat, not humans.

I believe these photos were outed as fakes. I've seen em before. They may have even been discussed on this board. (The first one making it into the LOLcats thread I believe).
Still funny looking though.

Just goes to show how little you know about bears. Polar bears are the only ones which actively hunt people and, as MJK pointed out, they're likely to go for the easiest source of food where they are. They do, however, go after humans, so you should always be prepared if they might be around.

^^^ That much is true. Polar bears are one of the few species on the planet that will attack humans for food and not just out of self defense.
It's a small list, but there are a few.
The salt water crocodile is another I believe.
But bears in general will not. Some might be territorial, skittish, cranky, but they don't HUNT humans.
