If he perhaps stated that he was selling it for charity, he'd probably get a few bids or offers.
But it's clear that it's for money, claiming things like the wreath was a collectible.

I don't blame him. Trophies are useless pieces of crap really, when you think about it. Might as well turn it into something usefull. Maybe he really needs the money for something productive.
Although, I can't actually imagine someone being interested. What's the point of owning a medal you never earned? It's useless^2.

Wouldn't you buy the Stanley Cup if sopmeone offered it to you, even though you never won it?

That's because it's a one of a kind trophy.

Yep.
Huge difference between the Stanley Cup and a paralympic medal. The Stanley Cup is historical, and is associated with many celebrities and personalities. The nostalgic value is substantial.
While earning a paralympic medal is a great personal acheivement, what personal value could it hold to anyone not associated with it? I guess maybe an eccentric collector might be interested..

I guess Paralympic medal winners just don't get the same endorsement deals that able bodied athletes get. Perhaps he needs to raise money for training or travel expenses.
A good friend of mine won Olympic gold in downhill skiing. He's totally 100% blind. Hardly got a mention...

You might expect him to be parapelegic considering that he is competing in the paralympics but that one pictures shows him standing which I gather is difficult for parapelegics to do on their own...

the parolympics is for anyone with any disability really. He's probably missing a limb, but has a prosthetic one or something.

This post reminds me of a quote:

Yes I realize there is a huge difference. You madee it seem like you wouldn';t want a medal or trophy of any sort. How about the Gold medal for the 100m sprint in the regular Olympics?

I actually had a paralympic gold around my neck from athens on sat. A girl from the sport goal ball had one and she was showing it to me, very cool medals. Wouldnt pay 10 large for it though.

people buy antiques and memorabilia all the time, wouldnt that fall under the same thing? Not many people actually care they didnt use that war-time musquet or carve that wooden table either.
Its his medal, i guess the guy can do whatever he wants with it.

says you. It all depends on your perspective. There are people out there who's whole life revolves around collecting locks of celebrity hair, or ken dolls, and who could probably care less about a Stanley Cup.
The Olympics are a pretty big deal, im sure there are many collectors out there who work in that field of memorabilia. His medal might not be worth 10 grand, but Im sure it definitely has its value.

I said that maybe an eccentric collector would interested, but I doubt it would be as mainstream as collecting antiques and memorablia from celebrities.
Mariah Carey's half-eaten sandwich sold for thousands on ebay, but that doesn't mean that you could sell anyone's half-eaten sandwich.
