Default Why would the cops...

...take your license plates? I'm at a loss. Got home and a couple of Denver's finest are parked in front of my house. They come back to their cars, then go to a van parked near my place and take the plates off. Stolen car? I figure they'd tow the sucker. Expired plates? There's got to be easier ways to control that. We've got to have at least one cop on CP, figure I'd ask. I did mention "Look, I just moved in here and have a four year old, anything going on I need to know about?" the answer was no. Any ideas would be great, I'm stumped.

Just an odd situation all around. They had two cars blocking off the dead end of this condo complex, looking inside the van and then nonchalantly just kind of ripped off the plates and moved on. Dunno, maybe it's nothing but it was odd to me.

Maybe the van is uninsured, is unsafe for the road or involved in a hit and run. Could be a tow truck is on it's way.

My only thing is, if he had unpaid tickets, they're sending two cop cars at 8 pm on a Saturday night to take his plates? If that's true then I have a beyatch session about tax dollars coming on.

Maybe they weren't cops, dressed up as such and went around to steal a bunch of plates...

I don't know, that's just weird though.

My guess is that he has warrants out for him. The police have probably tried knocking on his door in the past, but he didn't answer. So the cops take his plate- forcing him to either call the police about the missing plate, go into the DMV (and if the warrants are traffic......), or not drive his vehicle. In any situation justice will be served somehow.

Unpaid tickets, wouldn't they just clamp and/or tow?

I wouldn't think it's the cop's job to chase that sort of stuff up.
