Default Knock knock?

No joke..

My apartment is heated with hot water, and there's a rather loud knocking noise that are made whenever hot water flows into the pipes. Does anyone know how I can make that stop, or lessen it? Other than turning off my heat of course. It's waking me up at night.

You're probably hooped. My building has loud water heating as well. I've mentioned it to the landlord and he gives me a blank stare that reads: "why do you think your rent is so cheap, moron".

So my solution is a couple of nightcaps and leaving the stereo on.

Sounds like air in the pipes, usually there is a valve that you can use to let the air out. I used to have these on the radiators themselves when I had a house like this.

This works if you've actually got access to the maintenance room. I had the same thing in an apartment in italy. Had to let the air out of the system. But around here, apartment buildings have a central boiler and the system is not accessible to renters. I swear that my cheap ass landlord has the system half full of air to keep costs down. I can actually hear the water trickling through the pipes. I set my thermostat to maximum back in late November. It's a comfortable 20 degrees in here.

My water heater used to make that sound. It was so loud and it happened any time shortly after using hot water. We had to have it flushed. I guess sediment can collect at the bottom of it. I never understood how sediment created such a loud banging noise but flushing it took care of it.

Unfortunately I don't think you will be able to accomplish this in an apartment building but here is a solution:
