Tigers caddy (Steve Williams) calls Mickelson a....
prick!!
Quote:
"I wouldn't call Mickelson a great player 'cause I hate the prick."

Quote:
"I don't particularly like the guy (Mickelson) myself. He pays me no respect at all and hence I don't pay him any. It's no secret we don't get along either."

Are you kidding me????
Look, I am a huge Tiger fan and think he and Williams have one of the most productive and unique relationships as player/caddy that I have ever seen.
But this is WAYYY over the top for Williams to be speaking like that. He pays him no respect? He is a freaking caddy fer chrissakes. No one goes to see him haul a bag around, they go to see Mickelson play.
Yikes...what an idiot.

Should be interesting to hear what Tiger has to say about his caddy and his comments. Publicly he will probably distance himself from the comments and privately chide Williams for being an idiot.
If Williams was looking for respect i suspect he lost it with the other caddies on the tour. Trashing someone behind thie back is garbage. At least be a man and tell it to the persons face.

I don't think Tiger will do/say anything. There's no secret that Tiger and Phil hate each other.

That may or may not be true.
However...what is true is that there is an etiquette to the game that Williams has just broken, and Tiger is a very very strong proponent of the integrity of the game. As such, he will have to respond in some fashion at some point as this breaks all of golfs unwritten rules.

Are you sure? I didn't know slamming clubs and swearing at the gallery was part of the integrity of the game.
I've seen Tiger break many 'unwritten rules' but he's Tiger.

Tiger also defended Williams when he busted up a guys camera and goes off on the crowd during tournaments. I think publically Tiger will "no comment" this until it's forgotten news and share a laugh with Williams behind the scenes. Williams is also not just Tiger's caddy but best friend. I doubt something like this will result in any chiding.
Phil criticized Wood's equipment years ago that fueled a rivalry for quite a while. I think it's pretty safe to say Fudge Mickelson isn't on Tiger's Christmas card list.

Wow, that is a little over the top for Williams to say in Public like that. Lots of guys on the tour don't like each other but they rarely call each other out in the news.
Here is Phil's response:

Tiger should fire this guy, what a joke. Total disrespect. If Tiger does nothing about this he should be chastised.

It'll be interesting to see what Tiger does. "Stevie" was also best man at Tiger's wedding, so it isn't like it is purely a professional relationship.

On Sunday, Williams told the New Zealand paper that he didn't expect the story to reach the public. "I certainly didn't make [the comments] to a media person," he said. "I visit a lot of golf clubs and do a lot of speaking for charity and that is one of the questions I get asked the most: What is Tiger's relationship like with Phil Mickelson?
"I was simply honest and said they don't get along. You know what it's like. You're at a charity event and you have a bit of fun."

Had he been misquote?
"No," he is reported to have told the Star-Times in a followed-up to the Guardian report at the weekend. The quote was accurate, but it was never intended for public consumption, he said.

If you don't want anyone to hear it, don't say it
Tiger won't say anything about it and it'll pass.

"I was disappointed to read the comments attributed to Steve Williams about Phil Mickelson, a player that I respect," Woods said in a statement. "It was inappropriate. The matter has been discussed and dealt with."

So because Mickelson is an above average golfer and Williams is a caddy Mickelson doesn't have to show the man respect? I'm sorry. I was unaware that we respect people based on their jobs and not who they are as a person...
If Williams says Mickelson is a prick (I've heard other people say the same thing mind you...all hearsay though) then I'd say he has a better idea about it than any of us.

Exactly. Who, that follows golf, hasn't heard from everywhere that Mickelson is a two faced prick? Obviously it is a lot of heresay but 9 times out of 10 when there is this much smoke, there is definitely fire. Good on Williams, great to here someone tell it like it is. Like Super Rye says, why should Mickelson "deserve" more respect then Williams? He certainly doesn't if you ask me, camera turns off and Phil doesn't have time for anyone but Phil IMO.

I have heard from many people who have met Mickelson that he is a great guy. There are some guys on tour who seem pissed off that he doesn't kiss their ass or spend 40 hours a week with them, but again all hearsay. I have heard a lot more good things than bad things about Mickelson.
There are stories and examples of Woods being a prick too. My guess is 90% of the guys on tour have times when they are/people who woudld call them pricks.

He should show the guy some respect and comments like this are not only stupid but immature and cheap. Williams can talk all about how it was at a charity event and all in fun but it still shows what an idiot Williams is.
Williams states that he doesn't consider him a great golfer because he is a prick? Well then what does he think of his own jackass of a golfer?
Mickelson's response is perfect and exactly what I would expect from a class act like Phil.

You're buying into the "Phil Mickelson, great guy" act just like he wants everyone too. Meh...we could go back and forth with our "hearsay" all night long but there is no point. Personally, I choose to believe Phil is a prick and will continue to believe that until I am presented with a very good reason not to.

He's most certainly not great. He chokes too much to be great.
