Default Hundreds stranded on 8 mile ice floe in Lake Erie

Unbelievable. I would think that it would be relatively easy to declare this ice safe or not safe on a daily basis.

The fact you could only get out there by using planks to cross the cracks might have been a tip off your shouldn't have been out there one would think.

Ice, especially on teh Great Lakes, can be tricky to read, but yeah, if there are gaping cracks I don't think you want to drive you quads across them.

150 rescued in total, 1 dead.

Sheriff says that he'd like to have made 150 arrests for lack of common sense.

Better yet, charge them all for the costs of the rescue.

Wow harsh words. Bet the fact a guy died doesn't make them feel any better either.

I would imagine that many of them lost stuff like ATVs and fishing shacks and the like. Can't imagine the Coast Guard recovering them for them.
