Rogers doubles speed of 3G network!

Now will have download speeds up 7.2 mbps. Up from 3.6.

Rogers Communications Inc. is rolling out a "3.5G" cellphone network that will be one of the fastest in the world and which the company says will double speeds for customers using data services such as web surfing and video on their mobile devices.

Also, some comments on why Canada never saw the 2G iPhone.

"[Apple and RIM are] well aware of our need. We didn't roll out the 2G [iPhone] since Ted [Rogers] was always very adamant that he wanted the 3G version. RIM is working as hard as it can on all the nuances to get more HSPA devices out specifically," Boynton said. "They know there's a lot of carriers all asking the same question, so it's a matter of when not if."

Personally I don't care that much. How many people have data plans that don't gouge them on usage? Only those on corporate plans and those lucky to get the 6gb $30 plan (me included) would have any real use for this.

Most current phones can't handle 3.5G yet anyway, so I don't know how significant this is (yet)...on my iPhone, I haven't been able to go any faster than 230kbps

Yeah forgot about that part. My Nokia N97 will have it come June... mmmm.
