Default The Photo Book From iphoto

Just a heads up for the CP photographers, I've finally found a custom photo book that I like! I've been trying for a couple years to find a high quality way to show off some of my pictures and I think I may have found my solution.

Has anybody tried getting a photo book printed from Apple's iphoto? My sister-in-law is one of those people that is impossible to buy for at Christmas so we decided we'd give one of these books a whirl.

We threw some photos together from a hiking trip we all did back in July. Last night the book arrived and I must say I'm a little stunned at how good the quality is. I'm kicking myself like crazy for not trying this out sooner. I've seen these books before from blacks and kodak but the quality was never there in my opinion.

I realize I'm totally coming off as an apple fanboy viral marketer, but rarely am i this impressed with a product. If anybody is missing the good old days of getting your photos printed, this is a really cool option.

I got a 26 page book (8.5" x 11") with about 40 pictures in it for $30. Only took 2 days to create 4 days to ship.

You actually got it in 4 days?

I ordered just normal prints and it took almost 4 weeks.

Good to hear the quality was good. Was the process fairly easy? I do have a mac.

I've seen the books as well and the quality of the hardcover books is quite impressive.

EDIT: My wife told me that you need to get your orders in by tomorrow to have them in time for Christmas.

I was blown away at how quick it took. So much in fact I wonder if I just managed to catch them during a slow work week. I ordered it on the 3rd and it came last night (7 days total for production and shipping).

The process is pretty much fully outlined in the movie above. You essentially just create a grouping of photos, hit the book button, select your type of book (hardcover, softcover etc.)and select a theme.

Once you do that it gives you a blank book with placeholders. Just drag your thumbnails onto the placeholders and the photo is auto-sized for you. I really liked that if you didn't like a particular layout on a page you could select from a list of alternate layouts.

That's pretty much it. Even my wife who isn't totally on board with the Mac just yet was impressed.

We did up a couple for our parents for this Christmas. Ordered on a Sunday and had it in my hands on Wednesday.

The quality is top notch. I ordered one on Monday of our wedding photo's and spent a long time on photo correcting this one. I expect it to be even better.

Anyone do a calendar?

I got my wife a 22 page hardcover book for Christmas. This was my first time using iPhoto to do a book and it turned out amazing. You can add notes on the inside flaps, do full page images and all the layouts are great. Print quality is pretty good. On Page 2 and 3 I did a full 2-page borderless panoramic picture of Quito Ecuador that looks really cool. Of course you can do all the standard photo editing that iPhoto provides as well (Sepia, B&W, blurred borders, zoom and crop, etc).

I think mine cost $32 plus $7 S&H and that's American, so it was just under $50 Canadian. Sounds expensive but I had a lot of full page pictures in it. It took about a week to arrive.

Wife's gonna love it.

We now have a family tradition of doing an iPhoto book of all the grandchildren in the family for my Mom. She loves it--it looks great on her coffee-table, and the quality is as advertised--fantastic. I'd recommend it to anyone. It's not cheap, but definitely worth it, and the whole thing is very customizable.
