Do they accept returns without receipt at Wal-Mart?
Yesterday I bought a very expensive item over $100 at Wal-Mart unfortunately, the reciept must have blown away from me in the parking lot. I am now needing to return it however, their website policy says 90 days with receipt.
Anyone have any experiences with Wal-Mart taking back returns without a reciept? Could they track my purchase from UPC and my Visa card or something?

I would say you're all right. In the very least you'll get store credit.
If they give you trouble just keep complaining and then ask for the manager. If he says no ask for the number of the regional director or manager and call him, or they'll just cave right away.

Only if you've opened the box, stuffed everything back in wrong, and lost a critical component and the instructions as well. In which case, they will gladly take it back and resell it to me.

Walmart takes back almost anything without a receipt (even if you haven't bought it from there). You should have no problem.

I used to work returns way back in the day. They will pretty much take anything back. I witnessed some pretty gross things being returned.

I think depends what it is.
I tried to return a microwave that didn't work out of the box.
They wouldn't even let me exchange it (they said the don't do it with electronics).
So I did what any right minded person would do.
I went to the microwave section.
Bought a second one, kept the receipt for that one, and returned the original on that receipt. It was a pain in the ass, but I got the microwave I wanted in the first place.

Me and a buddy of mine have done this so many times with worn out PC controllers and XBOX 360 controllers. I'm certain other customers have frequently gone home and opened the box only to have a defective or slightly used controller.
Wait maybe this should be in the confessions thread.

In the States, you get something like two or three returns each year without a receipt. Their register system now captures and displays that info.
And, as Mel says, you need an ID....

I bought 'Batman Returns' from WalMart. When I got home, I opened the plastic, and there was no DVD. I called and talked to the manager. They didn't care that there was no DVD, or whatever the reason was. They put a copy aside for me, and I exchanged the no-DVD for the DVD. I can't remember if I had my reciept with me, I'm sure I did, cause I had just bought it.
Just the 'don't care' attitude when it came to returns, I thought fitting in this thread.

A number of years ago when the Back to the Future triliogy came out I put it on my wish list- specifying "Widescreen." My g/f at the time bought full screen because she "hates the black bars."
Then of course she insisted we watch one of the movies on Boxing Day, I think more out of spite as she knew I couldn't return it/exchange it. A few weeks later we broke up, and I went into Wal-Mart and asked about exchanging it- even though it was open I wanted to exchange it for the same title. The manager let me, but made the CSR open the shrink wrap on the Widescreen version (so that I couldn't turn around and return the widescreen one later.)
Wal-Mart and Home Depot are places I like to shop at because they have a fair return policy. HD actually goes one step further; if you know what card you used to pay with (even Interac) they can look it up that way.
But as has been said, they will only give you X number of returns without a receipt. A buddy who was bad for throwing out receipts found that one out the hard way.

It sometimes depends on the person you get but they usually will refund you. I actually "fixed" my red rings of death problem with my 360 this way.

Haha... harsh, but brilliant. All companies have to do is send it back to the manufacturer and get their money back. They already have the systems in place! Is it conceptually imoral?
