Default Can anybody recommend a good smart phone?

My wife's cell phone contract is expireing with Telus in about 6 weeks and of course they want her to re-sign with them again.
I told her to negotiate with them and see what kind of deal she could get by signing another 3 year contract. She would really like to get a smart phone with a full qwerty keyboad and all the other goodies

They said they would give her a Blackberry Curve 8330 for free or if she wanted she could get the new Blackberry Storm for $100 off the $250 they want if you sign a 3 year contract. For those who don't know, the Storm is Blackberry's answer to Apple's iphone.

I thought great.... then I started reading up on what some people had to say about the Storm (its been available in the USA for a couple of weeks now). Needless to say, the reviews were brutal.

So now she's thinking about getting the iphone .... but Telus doesn't offer that option.

Any suggestions?

I'm ditching Telus at the next opportunity. The reliablity of their network is borderline laughable, especially if you text message people often. I'd honestly jump to Rogers and get an iPhone.

I'm an iphone lover and a telus hater so you should see this recommendation coming from a mile away.

I would give a solid look at the iphone. It may not coincide with what your wife really wants in a cell phone, but if it does then it's a wonderful option. Personally without my iphone my life would fall into a disorganized mess.

Sure it has it's negatives, but all smartphones have some drawback. I'd say if the iphones particular drawbacks don't irk your wife then perhaps that would be the product for her.

The Blackberry Bold is pretty nice, my coworker really likes his.

I've had some pretty $$ phones from work over the years and my favorite so far is the iPhone as well. Not perfect, but closer than anything else that I've used for what I want to do.

Who do you have your contract with and what do you think of them?

With the way Fido has restructured I'd seriously consider them as a carrier over Rogers. I know...Same company, but no system access fee adds up over 3 years.

I have a 3 year contract and my bill comes to about $80-$85 per month. I haven't had any real issues with them so I can't speak of their customer service. This is one phone that I really don't mind having a three year contract with at all.

I really enjoy the my5 plan that I'm on. I came the cold realization when I bought the phone that I'm not the social all-star I used to be as everybody i call fits nicely into my5 plan. As people within the my5 don't count against my minutes I was able to go with the minimum talk package (150 minutes/month I believe).

edit: I admit I know nothing of Fido, they may be the better bet.

HTC touch is what I have. Great as a smart phone, terrible as an actual phone. Never tells me when calls are coming 1/2 the time, always disconnects. I can't wait until I can get rid of this POS.

You didn't say.... but I assume your contract is with Rogers?

Anybody know anything about the LG Dare.... seen it advertised on TV

Has anybody been offered any real good incentives to move from Telus to one of the competing carriers?

I have the HTC Touch Pro - which is the basically the Diamond with a full querty keyboard and added wifi and alot of improvments (like shutting off the screen when talking to someone - no accidental hang ups)

This phone is seriously incredible, i was thinking of the Storm but after the reviews - i'll take a look but i'm very happy with this phone.

Personally, im with Bell but I know Telus is carrying this phone, just slightly more expensive. But if you can Negotiate and use Bell's price point as leverage....

If you have six months to wait, the recently announced Nokia N97 will be my next phone:

HTC makes me throw up in my mouth!

I would stick with a Blackberry, or iPhone if she wants to be cool.

Storm, Curve or 8830 are all pretty solid phones.

Looks like a real nice phone. From the review link you posted it sounds like a real improvement on the HTC Diamond. The reviewer really seems impressed.
Certainly looks like a serious contender for my wife's new smart phone.

Regarding the Storm, you might not think so if you've read these two reviews...

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/04/te...c73&ei=5087%0A

It sounds like the Storm has some serious problems.

Sorry I didn't finish the sentence. Stupid work getting in the way of my posting!

Storm is a question mark, Curve or 8830 are pretty solid phones.

Probably not forever, Telus is going GSM eventually I think I read somewhere.

But will there be a CDMA version of the iPhone? If they haven't done it by now...
