Default Flames Hang Tough but Fall.... (QCOnline)

as winless streak reaches seven.

According to the Winnipeg paper, apparently we're a tough team to play against....

We just can't score!!!

Tell me again why it would be a bad thing if we got a different AHL team in here.

Funny, I said the same thing about the Calgary front office not more than three weeks ago.

If you go to this thread about the attendance struggles in Columbus vs Winnipeg, you get a discussion about teams' performance affecting their attendance. It seems like people understand that its hard to get a sellout when your team never goes anywhere. Yet when QC Flames fans harp on the fact that our team rarely wins, we're told its because we don't cheer for them enough.

If a different NHL team affiliation would mean that they'd at least *pretend* to care about their AHL fans, then it would be an improvement.

I find it hard to believe that there would be an NHL team that would show more indifference to their AHL city. I think I am being kind when I say indifference, as opposed to saying it borders on contempt.

During the second intermission last night, Sutter did a radio interview with the Manitoba guys. I just happened to click over during the break. (DS, I still have my NeuLion game pass if you can clip it out and post it...they never did give me a refund!)

Sutter absolutely dissed the AHL....his contempt was almost unbelievable!

Notes I took....
______________

Sutter traveled with Lundmark.

On Lundmark not being there to play on Friday...."We don't score many goals, so when you take away Lundmark, it's an impact."

Really young and need really good goaltending to win games. Keetley had a good start...Irving's just 20. They're going to have some ups and downs.

Talking about VanderGulik's tenacious work ethic....provides leadership, more of a checking type guy.

On Peters' trip up...a good leader and they needed a 4th line centerman.

Abbotsford--thinking about that? Calgary has three options.

First option to stay where they are, second to find another place, third to move out of the AHL completely. They'd like to stay where they are, but big costs associated with having a US team with exchange rate for the dollar....so an AHL team in Canada wouldn't be all bad.

Sutter's not sold on the AHL....not all development like it's supposed to be, often a bunch of old guys on some teams playing against youngsters.

Boyd--a kid who's been very good. A good player.

_______________

I'm not sure whether he was totally dissing the whole league or whether maybe it was an intentional shot at Manitoba....they've got a few of those old guys/NHLers playing and are leading the league. And that's why he did it on their broadcast...a slap in their face.

'Cause they kinda tried to change the subject, and Sutter wouldn't let it go....according to the folks here from Calgary, he's too media-saavy to not have done that on purpose....

I don't know, but indifferent is almost an understatement. This team has won 4 of 14 games at home, scoring something like 33 goals. On the road, they've scored 46 in 16 games. Two goals per game usually isn't going to win....and it's dang hard to sell a team with that kind of record. QCSV could be miracle workers and would still have problems selling this team to the public anywhere!

Kinda like how we have Bubba, Lundmark and if Rhett wasnt put on IR we would have him also. so cant talk about old guys on the team. Older guys like Krog Kean (sp) would help the young guys get ready for the big boys. but sutter thinks McGill would just do that for him.

I hear what you're saying but, honestly, compared to other teams, we don't have as many "old guys"....we're probably one of the youngest teams in the league this year. Quite honestly, if they hadn't had to dump Bubba's salary, we wouldn't have him, either. It's not like he really signed to play in QC....he had to report to get paid.

Another thing that's a bit misleading....all hockey players are paid in US dollars, so how big can the cost differences really be??!
