Default Wal-Mart employee trampled to death on Black Friday stampede

http://www.reportonbusiness.com/serv.../Business/home

Wow. Could anything be more damning of consumerism?

I've wanted to kill people to get out of a walmart but never to get into a walmart.

Trampled by people who would rather save $20 on an ipod then pick you up ... what a depressing way to go.

I especially like how the first part of the article has a little blurb about the trampling, and then the rest reads like a promotion.

"Somebody died, but you can get some great deals on televisions and Guitar Hero (tm)..."

The police should try to identify as many people involved as possible and charge them all with manslaughter.

No kidding what a terrible article.

Man dies in flood of consumerist rage. But look at all these great deals on Plasma TVs!!

Sad sad indictment of our society.

Okay trampling death aside the dumbest part of this article is some of the people's reasons for lining up.

They're saying things like "Well the budget is tight so i lined up so I can save $50 on a tv"

Damnit people, Buying a $400 tv does not save you $50 it costs you $400.

If you're serioulsy worried about that $50, maybe you should rethink the purchase.

It's that damn the more I buy the more I save mentality that is the reason for the current economic problems right now.

Absolutely agree. The logic people try and spew out is shocking at times. I have a friend who is in some rather serious financial trouble. He'll say something along the lines of "I quit smoking and I determined that the money I save each month on cigarettes is roughly equal to the monthly payment on a boat ... so i bought a boat".

That there is a head scratcher.

Couldn't agree more.

The article about a tragic and horribly silly death finishes with;

“I think we are going to see the busiest Black Friday ever, but will it carry over past 10 a.m.?” he said. “The bottom line is a great Black Friday does not make a season.”

Embarrassing.

Obviously you weren't around for the famous cabbage patch kid brawls of the mid 80's, where house wives would kick the ever loving hell out of each other so they could get thier hands on the ugliest toy ever made.

Hey! My wife got one of those for our 9 month old daughter for xmas, it's the 25 year anniversary, and apparently they are popular once more. Hell, she only had to bust up 2 other Moms, and was certainly nowhere close to kicking the ever loving hell out of them.

Now the Tickle Me Elmo brawls, not the ugliest toy ever made, but quite possibly the stupidest.

The other awesome retail war involved Teddy Ruxpin (sp?), I still remember buying one for a nephew and seeing the ugliness there as one old lady ripped the fluffy talking toy out of another womans hands and made a beeline to the cashier holding it high over her head as the Teddy sang some kind of happy song.

Good post. Reminded me of this phrase:

IMO "Black Friday" is a more suitable name now than ever.

Gross.
