Default Anyone play or have played eveonline?

It popped up on a banner while I was surfing CP and although I have heard of it I've never had the time to give it a go. There is a free trial period so I thought maybe I might check it out. Just wanted to see if anyone has given it a go and their impressions on it. The general idea seems interesting and the screen shots I've seen don't look to shabby.
It has all the tell tale signs of a life sucker but I guess that's only a problem if you make it one.

Eve is quite an insane game. I refuse to play MMORPGs but I heard a few weeks ago there was a large battle that wiped out $36,000 USD worth in real money.

It's quite a complicated game with large player corporations, spies working for every side, lots of factions and wars and politics. In those big battles, apparentely one big mothership that costs thousands of real dollars to invest in and build belonged to one of the bigger bullying corporations. A group of smaller groups got a spy into the other company and stole their passwords to access their accounts. They then teamed up in a coalition and rammed his mothership from the space station's protective shield and then and destroyed it.

Ok, so you recognize a quote from a book written by Engels and can summarize a complicated scheme in an online game involving motherships and protective shields.

This is painting a very strange picture of you.
