Default Vets in Calgary

Hey CP,

I've moved to a new community and am looking for recommendations and/or bad experiences with any vets you've had.

I used to live in Mount Pleasant (North), but kept bringing my animals to the 24hr vet in Fish Creek (South). It was pretty inconvenient and am looking to go somewhere closer to our new home in the Altadore/Lakeview area.

If its the best vet in the city, I'd still be willing to travel but I'd rather be close to home.

We'd been happy with 24hr FC until our 2.5 year old cat died suddenly of a heart attack yesterday. Apparently she had a fairly common condition but it was never picked up during our check ups there.

Also, I think it would be interesting to air out some pricing as I have been to a few different locations on "emergency" type events, and costs for different drugs, foods and services seem to be all over the map.

There's a vet specifically for cats right next to Bolsa in a plaza on MacLeod, the one directly north from Rona. They were pretty good.

The Western Veterinary Specialists downtown are another good option. They have the newest/most advanced facility in the city and several highly specialized doctors. They also have a 24 hour emergency clinic.

I live in Lakeview and we take our 2 cats and 2 dogs to the Vet in Lakeview plaza. A small practice but the doctor is in definately in it for the animals....
Last year my dog ripped a chunk out of her leg at Southland Dog park and even though they were really busy they took the time to (attempt to) see her and didn't charge me anything.

I take my dog to Midlake Vet in Midnapore, and have always been pleased with how they treat my dog and I.
