On Thursday November 19, 2009, Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort (the banana guy) will be distributing 50,000 copies of Charles Darwin's 'Origin of Species' at universities across America to students for free.
BUT THERE'S A CATCH!!
Each copy will have a 50 page intro about how evolution has never been proven and how Darwin helped inspire the Holocaust.
Oh God, not another religion thread. Let this be on the insanity of this guy and his bizarre connections of Darwin to Hitler, and not more religion bashing. My head's hurting already.

Given that the concepts and realities of Darwinian evolution are still challenged, albeit rarely by biologists, a succinct briefing on why evolution by natural selection is an empirically validated principle is useful for people
to have to hand. We offer here 15 examples published by Nature over the past decade or so to illustrate the
breadth, depth and power of evolutionary thinking. We are happy to offer this resource freely and encourage its free dissemination

I agree, this is not about religion sucks but that Ray Comfort and Cameron are bat sh*t crazy morons.
BTW for those who don't know Comfort, lucky you, here's his infamous Atheist's nightmare, the BANANA.

Are you serious? Hitler was clearly influenced by Darwin's theory of evolution, and is plainly evident in Mein Kampf.

Perhaps what HP meant isn't that there is a connection but that Hitler's view of the connection was complete BS. There is no such thing as "survival of the fittest" and especially not in the sense that Hitler was promoting it (Aryan).
I should note that an argument could be made that survival of the fittest can be true but not in the sense that Hitler and other idiots view it. Fittest is usually a synonym for strongest, which of course Darwin knew was BS. He never used the term survival of the fittest because what we perceive to be the strongest aren't always the fittest. Fittest, in this context, means most fit to survive and reproduce which has nothing to do with strength, might or power.
"We would like to present the opposing... and CORRECT view... These students aren't stupid, they should be allowed t make up their own minds! We think that's healthy."
Hoo, boy.

This culture of fear and disinformation against evolution is having more consequences, the new film Creation, which is the story of his struggles with faith and reason during his lifes work on evolution. No US distributor picked it up, while Expelled got 1000 screens showing that piece of crap.
There was nothing natural about Hitler's selection.

Why should he be stopped? Because he has a different opinion than you?
Give it up already. He has different views than you, we get it. No need to persecute him, take away his freedom of speech and religion because he believes differently.
Your hate-on is childish and sad.

Hitler was even more clearly influenced by the writings of Martin Luther, especially Luther's book "On the Jews and their Lies". A quote from that book:
Set fire to their synagogues and schools. Jewish houses should be razed and destroyed, and Jewish prayer books and Talmudic writings, in which such idolatry, lies, curing, and blasphemy are taught, [should] be taken from them. Their rabbis [should] be forbidden to teach on pain of loss of life and limb.
You could argue more convincingly that Protestant Christianity led to the Holocaust.
I will not make that argument, however. It is simplistic to say that a twisting of Darwinism or a basic understanding of Lutherism led to his hatred and attempted destruction of the Jews. I'm sure that he used both Darwin and Luther to lend gravitas to his Final Solution.
I'm not trying to bash religion here, just pointing out the absurdity of blaming Darwin for the Holocaust.

No he's ignoring the truth to fit his childish and ignorant view of the world.
He has the freedom of speech, freedom of religion, but he's not exorcising his freedom to think.
He's trying to derail science, trying to convince naive people to believe his nonsense, and YES this deserves a rebuttal.
He's the one going to public institutions, spreading lies about hitler and darwin, pretending that evolution is flawed and some giant conspiracy.
If its being childish to defend truth in the face of fundamentalism then ga ga gooo goo.

I'm pretty sure Hitler was Catholic not Lutheran. He at the very least hung with more Catholic clergy than Lutherans. In any case he could have found anti Semitic writings in any of the major Christian denominations.
The thing is Hitler never used the Catholic or Protestant notion that they had replaced the Jews as God's anointed people. He also never spoke about the Jews being the enemies of God or that his was a Holy war. He spoke about superior races.
"On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life" was the full title of Darwin's ground breaking book. "Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life" sounds an awful lot like "superior races". Hitler wasn't alone in developing this notion as well. If you believe that mankind has evolved from lower forms of life and is still evolving; it's not unreasonable to assume that within our species there would be stronger progressive races and others that are weaker and in decline. Hitler viewed his race as superior and saw it as only natural to eliminate those who stood in the way of his races dominance. I mean if we are but animals isn't any action we take natural and amoral?
