Criticism increasing after man mauled and killed at Delhi zoo
Has been all over the news the last few days. Looks like a drunk guy jumped into the Tiger enclosure at the Delhi Zoo and was subsequently mauled to death by a Tiger. There is a video of the incident, but won't post it. Doesn't look like zoo officials had any clue on how to handle the situation and were throwing stones at the Tiger, which seems to have provoked it more.
Lot of calls for the zoo to be closed. 80 animals died at the zoo in a one year span. Certainly a completely different environment and level of care from what we are used to in zoos in Canada.

I watched this yesterday. Not a pretty scene but not overly graphic. Just shows the Tiger kind of curious and then it seems like the people throwing stuff at the tiger agitated him and he just grabbed the guy by the neck and dragged him away. Unbelievable how easy he made it look.

If there's a man in a tiger cage, and the tiger is unhappy about it...there is pretty much sweet diddly that the caretakers can do unless they have tranq's or bullets handy. A full grown tiger is 500+ lbs of angry teeth and claws. A human is ~175lb squishy meat bits.

It's on YouTube (which itself indicates it's not that bad), and is not even remotely graphic, but I guess the end result is that the guy is dead so viewer discretion is advised. I won't embed it but here is the link.

In this case it's okay to blame the victim. 100% his fault.

Yeah I saw it as well, Tiger seemed to be just playing and sizeing up the poor kid at first until the stones started coming, this was only a 500lb white tiger(actually small for tigers) but he carried that poor teenager 100 yards by the neck like a child carrying a doll.
I have studied big cats for 30 years and I'm a little surprised the kill went like that, a tiger likes to make it's victim bleed as it is very talented with it's claws. probably felt rushed or maybe because it's in captivity..not sure.
They call Lions the "king of the jungle" but thats only because tigers don't live there. Tigers are bigger, stronger and better fighters that would crush the lion everytime in a fight.
Anyway, poor kid and totally stupid zoo workers..do they allow lawsuits in India for such things?

Goddamit.
Couldn't they have trap the man first, or at least used tranquillizers? I'm sick of this ####.

I'm sick of zoo's giving people the opportunity to do acts like this that get them killed.
Why can't we put up barbed fences that make it impossible for peole to jump into these enclosures?

Because if some dumb #### wants into these enclosures bad enough, they find a way. If they want to be Darwin Award winners, well....that's on them.

There is some uncertainty over whether he jumped or fell while leaning out to take a picture. Also, it's worth noting that he was in the enclosure for something like 15 minutes before the fatal attack and there were tranquilizer guns within 350 feet of the tiger cage.

How about this...how about we don't keep tigers in zoos and on display for gawking people?
