After 13 seasons (including this one) King of the Hill could be coming to an end. It's easily one of my all time favourite shows, and though it's not for everyone, it was for me.
It's had a long run, and this isn't the first time Fox has cancelled it. During the tenth season they announced it wouldn't be coming up. After some shows failed however, they brought it back for the 11th season. If it does end however, I hope Fox gives it a proper season finale.
I liked Hank Hill when he was Mr. Tom Anderson on Beavis and Butthead, many moons ago. Really funny stuff.
I've tried to get into this show, but can't do it. Haven't heard anything about cancellation.

There's apparently a live Beavis and Butthead movie being planned.
If so, Mike Judge is going to be very busy. New cartoon for ABC coming up, new movie coming out in 2009 as well. And Idiocricy is a very underrated movie. I really didn't like Beavis and Butthead the show, loved the movie though.
I have to be in the right mood to watch King of the Hill...most of the time I love it, but then there are times when characters like Dale and Peggy just grate on my nerves, then I get annoyed with myself for being annoyed by a cartoon.
It's one of my favourite shows too. Love how they've kept it pretty grounded even after all those years. Look how fantastical shows like Family Guy or the Simpsons got.
13 years is an amazing run and it might not be a bad thing to let the show end now when it's still enjoyable to watch. I can't stand watching more than a minute or two of the new Simpsons. There's a show that should have been yanked ten years ago.
And couldn't disagree more about Peggy Hill. Can't get enough of her character. Her piousness and self-delusion is priceless.
So glad I'm not the only one. She's easily the most irritating character, and every single thing she does drives me insane. I hate her so much.
She irritates me too, however as was mentioned by previous posters that's the point. Everyone knows or has come across some homely woman who is way too overconfident about their abilities and place in the world to the point it's overcompensating and annoying. She's a relatable character. Sometimes it plays well into the plot, like the time she needed to be rescued from a Mexican prison because she couldn't really speak Spanish.
I think King of Hill is one of the few TV shows that reach Canada that accurately portrays the american south (I think). Usually the south is given the 'hurrrr, the south sure is dumb and got no teeth' treatment, KOTH tends to celebrate all the souths strengths and weaknesses. I always thought it was a great 'slice of life'.
Plus my dad is Hank Hill style fixer-upper, when he fixes something, it stays fixed, none of this 'can we call a plumber now?' BS.
edit: Peggy annoys me too, but the way everyone quietly puts up with her crap is pretty funny, no-one will ever stand up to Peggy because its just not worth it. You can tell she used to be an uber-babe in high school and never had to grow out of it. KOTH has a rich history of annoying characters, because life is full of annoying characters
I really like the show, but absolutely hate Peggy. It's sad how I let a cartoon character irritate me like that, but I can't help it.
Hate her.
I feel the same way about Lisa Simpson. I know she's there to be the voice of reason in contrast to the other characters, but she's always ruining everyone's fun with her hollier than thou attitude.
The thing that worked for King of the Hill is that you have a conservative, bull-headed southerner who deals with a clash of cultures almost every episode. If he's not dealing with liberals or immigrants, he's trying to put up with his non-athletic son, emotional basketcase niece or his headstrong wife.
I think this is the formula that makes it work well; it isn't a show about a southerner for Southerners; it's a half-hour commentary on how American social values are changing. Mike Judge scored a winner on this one.
You know, watching King of the Hill last night after watching the Simpsons really gave some perspective. King of the Hill is still fresh and progressive, with strong lessons to learn. The Simpsons meanwhile are resorting to static characters, increasingly half-witted plot devices, and contrived re-hashes to deliver the same lesson as 12 other episodes.
I think Fox cancelled the wrong show. I couldn't stop laughing at that picture of Dale on the log ride with "unidentified special needs student" written underneath.
ABC could have a real gem on their hands if they pick up the show and keep it going.

I just saw Idiocracy... thought it was actually pretty good... very funny. "Go away! Batin!"

There's also the relationship between Hank and his father where Hank is like "Bobby" to him... a scaled down sissified version.
The Dale character is hillarious though. I'd watch a show if he were the main character.
