Default Barack Obama Makes New Friends

Boy, now THIS is someone I would love to have on my side welcoming me to the office...

Ahmadinejad welcomes Obama change

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad congratulated U.S. President-elect Barack Obama -- the first time an Iranian leader has offered such wishes to a U.S. president-elect since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

In other news, Kim Jong Ill calls Barack one of his peeps and invites him over for some Cognac and steamed rice. Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez also invited the Obama family over for a nice cup of fresh grown coffee.

Ahmadinejad will be gone very soon. He's quickly becoming irrelevant.

I don't think this deserves another thread when it can go under the US President thread.

Also, useless without links.

Ooops, I meant to put a link. Added. This is more of a satirical piece, that is why I didn't hide it in the 300 + page election thread.

I think Bush's ignorant handling of the middle east would cause anyone from that region to welcome anyone different, even McCain. The majority of the world wanted Obama, and thankfully it happened.

It's far easier to just assume that the US is now going to become "the USSA" as someone I know said, regardless of how well democratic socialism generally works out. Why educate yourself on the issues when you can make blind assumptions?

What does your comment have to do with his statement?

Well unless you gross over 250k a year you'll actually get a tax break. And if you do, you can probably afford the extra 900 bucks a year.

Very true. Public sentiment in Iran is against Ahmadinejad and in favour of Rafsanjani and the other moderates who favour more openness with the West. This is a struggling politician trying to hitch his star to a popular one, and if I were Obama, I'd stay pretty quiet on Iran until after next June, and then open up a dialog with what's likely to be a far more moderate president there.

Unless you are making a comparison of those European nations before their current forms of government came into play and the US today it really doesn't have a thing to do with what he said.

He's upset he has to have his hard earned money taken away and given to his lazy sister who does nothing.

Its quite clear, like others who hate Obama they fear socialism, and that fear traces itself to the cold war.

If you don't see his obvious shot against what he perceives as socialist policies then I guess I'm reading too much into his words, although I doubt I am the only one who read clearly from what he said.

Iran has a very strong youth movement, in the next 10-20yrs that youth movement will be in charge and we would be smart to support and help that movement fight against the extremists, like in all of the arab world. Turning more of these countries into religious moderates and then bringing them to the table in diplomacy will be the solution, not sending in more troops.

OK, but your original post doesn't address that at all.

Instead, you take a shot at American ignorance (that's a new one) and tout the greatness of European countries that are run under a model of democratic socialism.

Do you really think that's a valid comparison?

There are people in this country who have more kids to get more free money. It's stupid and counter productive, but that's the way it goes. I think Nicker's post was more geared toward that then "I'm afraid of socialism".
