Default Chavez takes the gold (from us)

Hope this isn't a fata

http://ca.news.finance.yahoo.com/s/0...-minister.html

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez's government will take over and nationalize La Cristinas, the biggest gold mine in the country owned by Canada's Crystallex, Mining Minister Rodolfo Sanz said Wednesday.

Why does he want to mess with us? Doesn't he know we're loco....

I actually have no problem with the government doing that. In the end it's their resource and I imagine the gold mine was basically making an outside source way more money than if the country chose to keep it.

Don't get me wrong, theres alot of Lefty in me, but seizing it like this strikes me the wrong way. Buying out the company or coming to some sort of compromise would be alright, but outright taking is another story.

I wouldnt suggest any English based North American company to invest in Venezuala. If I was the US, I would block all imports from that country. Also no English speaking tourists should visit Venezuala - you never know if you will be allowed to leave.

If they want to run their buisness like that then they need to know that there are consequences.

Does anyone here work for/invest in Crystallex? I'd like to get the perspective from someone directly related.

Hopefully it's not used for tanks but at least it will give a few more Venuzuelan's a job as drivers.

The article isn't clear if the mine was confiscated or if the govt. just bought it out.

As a basic premise I like the idea of a country owning it's own resources, to bad Canada doesn't have the independence to do likewise.
