New Alberta Brand
www.albertabrand.com
The Government released a new brand, which kinda seems unnecessary. I think Farmer Ed is going to take a lot of heat for this.

Glad that they have their priorities in order during this recession.

Yes, because throwing away the money spent on projects like this (and new license plates), which were begun long before the recession, makes more sense.

You have to admit, Alberta Advantage was a pretty stale, given that it was crafted in a time when we had surplus staff, low housing and living costs, and conditions that made it cheap for companies to come here (ie TCPL and CP).
C'mon. That site and brand cost all of what, $5,000?

Didn't this cost something ridiculous like $10 million to rebrand Alberta? How are we still stuck with a schmucks like Stelmach and Broncoboaster.

$10 million spent at a time when the Province had multi-billion dollar surpluses for nearly a decade? That's a drop in the bucket. It's not like a project of this scope would have been started in the last couple of months.
Sadly, those schmucks are probably still better than anyone else who wanted the jobs (although, the backwards way in which Ed won the PC leadership isn't really a great way to elect a leader).

Meh. I would hope projects like this aren't being approved now, while we're in a recession, but if this has been in the making for years now there isn't much we can do about it.

I kinda like the logo and tag line. Did it actually cost 10 million though?

I'm of the belief that things like this are needed much more in todays climate, as opposed to when things are going well. NOW is a time when we need to advertise the province in order to attract money and attention, not when things are hunky dory. Nobody needs to sell Alberta when things are hot.
Having said that, this website is extremely unimpressive. I don't mind the word mark.

Why didn't they just give out more 'prosperity cheques'? Word of mouth is the best advertising!

Awardees sounds okay to you? Sounds like a fast food joint in South Carolina or a condition that may require an aggressive round of antibiotics.
And then the person who hands out the awards would be the awarder?

Sounds ok to me, but I work in this field so I don't notice jargon. I think it would be Awardor though, but that sounds even more *&^%ed up

Still one of the most effective and powerful brands of all time, no doubt about it.
