Default South Africa man killed by family for changing channel

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/world-c...cc=5901&ver=us

Who was it in the "honour killing" thread that said Islam has a lot of "growing up to do" in comparison to Christianity.

Quote:
JOHANNESBURG -- Police say a South African man who wanted to watch a World Cup match instead of a religious program was beaten to death by his family in the northeastern part of the country.

David Makoeya, a 61-year-old man from the small village of Makweya, Limpopo province, fought with his wife and two children for the remote control on Sunday because he wanted to watch Germany play Australia in the World Cup. The others, however, wanted to watch a gospel show.

Imagine the press this would be getting, not to mention the amount of posts in this thread if this was a Muslim family. Surely, there's no double standard.

$200 bail? Man that's sweet. I guess it's true that money can give you a free pass in South Africa..

Not sure what any religion has to do with this...Some people just have it in them regardless of religion, race, nationality, gender etc...

Im speaking more about the reaction. Media loves to sensationalize certain issues based on religion, race etc. Change the religion/race and it's back page news.

It doesn't, which was my point. I just seem to remember people bashing Muslims because of the guy in Ontario who killed his daughter, while putting Christianity up on some kind of pedestal. It doesn't matter which religion, people are idiots.

I have to agree with most here. The article doesn't even explicitly state christian or otherwise just "religious program".

I could definitely see "wow they take their religion a little too serious" type posts.

It doesn't state exactly how he was killed but assumes that he was brutally beat. I don't care what program/religion/whatever I don't know how some family could gang up on their father and do such a thing.

It says that the family wanted to watch a gospel program.
