Just curious what people think of this.
Especially westerners who live or have lived in Asia.
As a Chinese, I've hated this concept.
If I ran a business and had to be polite and not step on anybody's toes so they don't lose face, I'd be out of business.
Traditionally saving face is about gentility not wanting to hurt the feelings of others, not showing off.
I think nowadays it has a disturbingly materialistic component. Having things means you're better than others and you 'save face'.
Blah it's hard to explain it.. Help!
