I painted my son's room in the Calgary Flames theme. We did an accent wall in Calgary Flames red and the ledge around the room was red as well. The rest is white, and we got a Calgary Flames border from Sears. Oh, and we painted the closet all red too.
We got the paint from Home Depot, they have the exact colors for the NHL teams. We got a primer, tinted pink. I used two thick coats of the primer, before I did the red, but you really only need to use one coat of primer... but I am wondering if it helped eliminate the amount of red coats I had to do. I only did 4 or 5 coats of red paint. I've heard of people having to do 8 coats of red paint. Red is the hardest color to paint on a wall due to the amount of coats, but you'll be happy with the end result.
After the 1st coat it looked kind orangy, pink, but the Home Depot chick told me that it wouldn't look all the red after the 1st coat. She warned me that it will take a few coats. With each coat I could see how it was going to turn out, the hardest thing was making sure the paint was even. The red soaked up more in some parts of the wall than it did others, so it took me more coats just to get it applied evenly. I have a picture somewhere, I'll have to find it and post it.
