All but the moose are further away than the old division they are in.
I hope the players get to keep ffm....
Its going to be a tough year with a tired team.

what happened to the Iowa Chops? The Ducks ended their affiliation, are they going to be moved? Sold to the Stars?

The Stars will have their own new AHL team out of Austin, Texas for next year.
As for the chops, they are suspended by the AHL for next season according to their website:
http://www.iowachops.com/news/index.html?article_id=284
Quote:
The Iowa Chops American Hockey League franchise has been involuntarily suspended for the 2009-10 season by the league’s Board of Governors, effective July 6, 2009.
“The Iowa franchise has unfortunately been unable to remedy certain violations of the provisions of the league’s Constitution and By-Laws,” said American Hockey League President and CEO David Andrews.

Re. the Texas Stars, as weird as it sounds, they have a team but they don't have a franchise. The AHL gave them conditional approval as long as they purchase a franchise by the 2010 season

Which is so easily done, I have no idea why it hasn't happened yet. Edmonton is affiliated with Rochester, but still owns the dormant Road Runners franchise. They sell it to the Stars, and done.
Either that, or the Iowa Chops will be sold and relocated. - though reading about this one, that doesn't seem likely. There is currently a temporary injunction barring someone from buying and moving the team, and officials in Des Moines are fighting to prevent any new owner from moving the team. Though, of course, the league could just terminate the franchise then sell an expansion team to Texas.

As some might think that iowa had better "attendance" than qc is a complete joke.
I been to alot of games in des moines and peoria and they fluff bad. they would have less than 1500 most games that I was there. Peoria was even worse but they give tickets away and no one shows so it goes for "paid attendance" Peoria and rockford will be done after this year too. I doubt those teams will move west to make up a western division to help out abbotsford since thier affilates are chicago and st louis.
But the ahl and IHL failed out west why not try it again right?

Whoops.
Regardless, it seems fairly obvious that the AHL's intention with the Texas Stars is to force the Oilers to sh-- or get off the pot with their dormant franchise. Prior to the suspension of the Chops, the Roadrunners were the only franchise available, and for a league that wants one team per NHL affiliate, Edmonton seems to be their problem child.

Until it's all settled in court, it won't be the Iowa Chops. A judge has issued an injunction barring sale of the franchise until everything is resolved.
The Chops' ownership owe the county $12.5 million for defaulting on the lease. It's going to get very messy.....

I guess that either the AHL would extend the Texas Stars' limited membership another year, or just revoke the Chops franchise entirely.
And good to see the Oilers finally doing something with that franchise.

The AHL really needs to get some teams out west. Travel is a killer but I sure do miss having a team in Salt Lake City. What happened to Colorado moving their team to Colorado Springs? Get one of the L.A. area teams to put a franchise back in Vegas and you have a western division.

They were already out west and it failed bad.
Just do some research on the original IHL and that will be your answer.
The big problem with the ahl is the same as the NHL with a large amount of teams in the north east of the united states.
I dont belive that abbotsford will be around for long because of this. not many team moving out west even if the nhl team wants it west unless they want to have every ahl team playing in thier nhl building and they are footing the bill.

You are aware that the AHL is not the IHL, right?
