Kotor 1 was a phenomenal game..this is coming from a guy who hates RPG's.
I have little to no interest in a MMO though.

I am huge whore for new MMOs. There is just something that I find incredibly interesting about them. Bioware is one of my favourite companies and Star Wars is still a great universe to build something like this, despite the massive number of crimes done to the license.
I am excited to see what they can come up with.

Another MMO I have to stay far far away from.

I hate the games where you spend roughly $40-$50 on the game, but then have to pay monthly costs to play it. I really really hate it when it happens to Star Wars games. I'm one of them Star Wars freaks who will play it and love it even if it isn't a great game. But I won't dole out additional money to play a game I've already purchased. I hope this is one of the MMOs that are free from monthly costs... I know, I'm probably dreaming.

I really enjoyed the KOTOR series. Not a huge fan of MMO's, though... just don't have enough time to make it worthwhile to pay each month. Personally, I'd rather they make a KOTOR 3.

Pretty much impossible to do, the resources to maintain a MMO are significant.. just the server and bandwidth costs alone, not to mention the salaries of the hundreds and hundreds just to answer all the in game help requests, plus dozens of developers to maintain the game, dozens to hundreds more for new content.
Their monthly fees are too high though I think.

Why addictive personality?
I've never beena huge star wars fan (thought i loved kotor), I'm just excited to have another MMO in the sci fi space.
Basically its only EVE thats out and i find it pretty boring to be honest, for the week i played it.
Now there's Stargate Worlds, Star Trek Online, Infinity Online (which looks crazy awesome) and now this MMO and i figure at least one of them will have to be good.
I've had a really hard time getting "into" games since i was a kid (last ones being SC, and Rome Total War) and i'm just excited to possibly have a game that i could really enjoy for a long time.
I guess I have a very non-addictive personality.

honestly I don't mind paying for a MMO. The way I see it if it costs me $10 bucks a month that is no different then a price of a movie. I don't have a hugely addictive personallity so I can pace myself. I've been playing WOW for almost 2 years and still haven't maxed out level wise. Everything in moderation. I'm also a bit of a star wars whore dispite what Lucas has done to it. Bioware has a good track record so I'm intrigued.

i thought there was talk few years back of changing the model so at least some of the cost of playing the MMO was offset by allowing in game advertising.
Mind you, I am so out of the game loop it's not even funny.
Still... this game is intriguing. But I am kind of over the whole sit at my computer for hours on end and play video games. I would much rather sit on my couch and play my PS3. It's much more comfortable.

Me too. there's no way I'll touch this game because I'd likely get addicted fast, and I can't sacrifice real life.

There are some MMOs that do it entirely with advertising, or some combination.
Other MMOs do it by having addons that you can purchase.. better weapons, clothing, etc.
A lot of different MMO business models being tried out right now around the world, in NA though it's all pretty much pay as you go with a few exceptions.
Some games like Guildwars do it by not being a real MMO.

I can see it now.
2000 dinkuses running around as Sith Lords.
10000 guys running around pretending to be girls.
1 jedi knight
2 plumbers.

with MMO's though, at least for me, is that they're so immersive they're all i play. i'm a casual gamer, and for the past year i'd buy probably 1 xbox game every 2-3 months. at $60 a pop, that's $20-$30 per month right there. but with Warhammer Online that i'm playing right now it's $15 a month and i have no desire to buy any other game right now. hell i haven't even gotten NHL 09 yet and i was looking forward to that immensly before getting into WAR. so really i'm saving myself money by just having the one game i'm playing, plus i get to play online with friends and have a good social time in Ventrilo to boot. seems like a good way to spend $15 to me

Indeed, i absolutely love the MMOs, but unfortunately have come to the sad realization that I have to stay away from them for now for the sake of my wife/job/house.
I'm one of those people who can sit down to kill 5 minutes in the morning and end up never making it to work.
As for paying for MMOs, @15$ per month i think most people including myself get more then our moneys worth when you compare it with the cost of pretty much doing anything else.

So true on so many levels.
I played Everquest for about 4 years hardcore and it pretty much killed that part of my life. The only saving grace was my friends played as well, which may have increased its addiction factor. If I started living that life again I would fully expect my wife to leave me and for me to fail school.

this is where having willpower is a good thing. just now i forced myself to log out of WAR in the middle of a massive siege battle because i'm going out to hang with some friends. i really didn't want to quit playing, but i keep telling myself i won't allow it to get to the point where i brush off family and friends for a game
