That's horrifying. One area where I can agree with George W. Bush is in how to talk about these kinds of acts: they're evil.

The President and the two major candidates shared some platitudes about "religious extremists"--but these guys are worse than that. They're nihilists--there's no other way to explain these kinds of acts. To take out dozens of innocent people (and it could have been hundreds) and in the process killing yourself--it shows a callous disregard for human life that can only be described as amoral. They may cloak themselves in religion--but if your religion tells you to kill innocent people and to love nothing and hate everything, then, well--you're doing it wrong.

That is ...I don't know what to say. My brother has been to Islamabad several times for the purpose of designing an airport. There and in Karachi he and his associates had to live in walled communities, heavily patrolled, and drive with several escort vehicles. This was a civilian airport, no sort of military project. Yeah he was scared to death...but felt perfectly safe in Dubai. He put it well I think by saying they worship the same god as we do in the US-money.

Quite scary, because as I lie here in bed I look out my window and see the bright red 'Marriott' sign. One thing NYC, Madrid and London has taught us is these kind of attacks aren't strictly confined to the developing world.
