Ideas for removing paint scratches on a car
My car is black, its really pretty, when its clean it is beautiful, but if I had it to do over again, I don't think I would get black. It shows every scratch.
I've only had my car since December and I'm pretty careful where I park it. But the drivers side has a lot of white scratches. The only thing I can think of is kids dragging their hockey gear in the rink parking lot and not realizing they're dragging their bags against my car.
The scratches are very noticeable and they're white. If I rub my finger over them, they feel smooth. Which makes me think rather than the paint being scratched, perhaps its a clearcoat compromise of some sort. Can that happen? Can those be rubbed out?
Does anyone have ideas how to get these scratch marks removed or to be less obvious at least?

I don't recommend it but I've fixed issues in my clear coat with a cut polish and wet sanding but it's not for the faint of heart.
My recommnedation is to take it to an auto detailer and discuss it with them.

I've got a black truck and get what seems to be exactly what you describe. Those pesky white marks that don't go into the paint.
I've used a pre wax cleaner that was varsol based and alot of elbow grease to get rid of them. I'm not sure what there from but I belive it is car doors. I was having a smoke one day by my car and some chick hit the truck quite lightly, I didn't even know, and she came over to tell me about it. Small white mark, her car was blue, go figure. A good coat of wax should fill in any small stuff as well. I'm no detailer but I've owned 4 black vehicles and with a little work you can keep them looking as good as you know they can.

Ya Maguires is the best, thats what I use. Trying to keep a car scratch free is such a headache, especially having to park at school in the parking lots. Some people can be so ignorant, I just don't understand how anyone can open their door and ding someone elses car. How do you do that? I have looked and I just can't figure it out, unless these people have never been told not to and don't even realise what they are doing.

I was hit at work the other day...in assigned parking stalls...the person. My car was scratched, the person who hit it tried to wipe it off, it didn't work so she just left and didn't attempt to contact me about it. She had MANY diferrent colours of paint on the edge of her door, so she hits cars with her door all of the time...and hard. Some peole just have no regard, for anyone they don't know.

You know, the more I think about it, the more I suspect this could be happening at work. Where I normally park at the rink it wouldn't be beneficial for a kid to go next to my car to get to the main part of the parking lot. I noticed the same scratches on a red truck in my work parking lot and my car is one of very few that doesn't leave at lunchtime since I don't get a lunch break. Hmmmm.
People are disappointing. Its not that hard to be courteous when getting in and out of your car in a cramped parking spot. I know I've squeezed out of my car with my door barely open in order to avoid hitting the car next to me. I'm sure many here have also. Why do people think its OK to fling their door open and damage someone else's property and not take responsibility for their carelessness? Grrrr.
