Default BATTLE OF ALBERTA - Part 3

Labour Day Classics is over and Calgary got spanked big time! It was an embarrassing lost for the Stamps especially the way they played in the 2nd Half. Are we going to see another stinker on Friday? Will Ricky Ray have a ball again tomorrow night? I think the answer will be BIG NO!!

OFFENSIVELY:

Burris got injured and left the game on Labour Day Classics. Is he healthy enough to play? Dickerson is gone for the season but he will be on the sideline helping the coaches and the QBs. Barrick Nealy is the designated 2nd string QB and the newly signed Ben Sankey is the 3rd string QB. I am hoping that we will not see any of Nealy or Sankey tomorrow night unless Calgary is way ahead. Receivers will have to really help out Burris and so as the RBs. We cannot blame the offensive units last game as Ricky Ray dominated the clock. Yes, they have 2 and out a few times but I guess that was the time when Dickerson already had a mild concussions. Anyways, it doesn't matter because one of the ways to stop Ricky Ray is not give him any time to be on the field.

DEFENSIVELY:

The first half was good for the Stamps DLines and LB. They were pressurring the QB and stopping the runs. The second half was totally opposites. The Stamps were doing 3-man rush most of the time but of course we have to give the Eskimos OLine is stopping the line and giving Ray more time to pick his nose. Last game was probably the worst game I've seen Armour play since he started playing for the Stamps. Ricky Ray's favorite target Calvin Bannister has to be better against the pass. He cannot be too agressive against Eskimos receiver. I am hoping Chris Jones watched the replay during the breaks so he can see that you cannot abandon the DLine QB pressures especially after the 1st half. The guy is slow so why not go after him all the time. Go after the guy, punish him and make him pay.

SPECIAL TEAMS:

The two fumbles by Stamps special teams were the one that caused the game to go into Eskimos momentum. Yes, they only scored 8 points on those fumbles but it made Eskimos defense so pumped up. I have to admit that I am always complaining about Markus Howell inconsistency. Nate Curry's run doesn't really make me forget about Howell. I am hoping Curry can run better after the catch. From the two returns that I saw, I was not very impressed because he seems slow. On a positive note, Sandro still continues his hot kicking last game.

COACHING:

No complain on Cortez last game but I question Chris Jones' decision-making. Stick to what works and change if it doesn't. I like Hufnagel and I still think he is still learning being the big man. He's been good making decision but I guess he should gamble especially on challenging the calls. I am not sure if he was saving his challenge calls until later but he definitely could have challenge the Fred Stamps' catch. It could have been out of bounds so it should be incomplete pass. Yes, Browner pushed him but I don't think he pushed him hard enough to catch the ball up in the air and landed over 3 yards. The Nate Curry fumble I am not sure.. it looks like he dropped the ball before he went down. The Reynolds fumble is definitely a fumble because of the big hit by Eskimos' coverage team. That was rock solid hit.

Anyways, come on boys and show the Eskimos your true color and win the game. GO STAMPS GO!!!

Bad start for the Stamps. Fumbled the ball on the first play and Eskimos recovered and scored a TD. 7-0 Eskimos.

Calgary bounced back and had a great drive, They ended scoring a TD pass from Burris to Ryan Thelwell. Score 7-7.

Mike Labinjo sacked Ricky Ray twice. Defensive pressures is pretty good so far, Ricky Ray looks hurt but still playing. Calgary's next possessions they ended up getting a field goal. End of the first quarter 10-7 Calgary.

Shannon James had a QB sack. Eskimos have the ball now and doing well. Pressured by Stamps D. Labinjo almost had a sack, He was holding Ray but he slipped and threw the ball for a good completion. Eskimos with less than 20 yards left. Ricky Ray was chased by Charles Hughes ended up throwing the ball to noone in the end zone. Prefontaine kicked the field goal and it was good. 10-10.

Much better defence in the 1st half, one sack on the stunt and one on the safety blitz that I counted. The Shmoes adjusted but they are still way up in the face of Ray much more than they were last game.

End of the first half ended with a cheap shot hit by Eskimos Dario Romero to Jesse Newman. Rob Lazeo retaliated and there was pushing and shoving at the end. It would be an interesting 2nd half. The score is 14-14.

Calgary scored a field goal after Burris started off the play with 35 yard pass to Jermaine Copeland. Sandro hit the field goal 13-10 Calgary.

Edmonton took possession and they started off well but they ended up a field goal which Prefontaine missed. 13-11. Calgary then the 3 points advantage again with Burke Dales punt going to the end zone. Calgary 14-11 with 3 minutes to go.

Tristan Jackson had a good punt return with less than minute left. Ray threw the ball but Stamps D stopped the receiver on 11 yards. 7 seconds left and Edmonton called a timeout, Edmonton kicked the field goal and it was good. Tied game.

Calgary with 1 Fumble early in the game -7 as Eskimos scored a TD.
Mike Labinjo had 2 QB sacks and Shannon James with 1 sack. Burris eluded a few QB sack tries by Eskimos.

Calgary defense is playing much better on this game. They pressured the QB more often but the run defense is not as good. Offense are good with Ralph, Thelwell, Lewis, Rambo and Copeland all caught at least one pass so far. RB Cornish had a good run while Reynolds will defintely start getting the ball soon. Burris with turf toe injury is doing well.

2nd half will be starting soon.

AJ Harris is looking untackleable.

AJ Harris is killing the LBs. The only LB playing well so far is James, Armour been brutal with tackling all night. Ray threw a 30 yard pass to Peterson on their 1st and 20. Charles Hughes sacked Ricky Ray.
Prefontaine kicked a field goal and it is good. 21-17 Calgary.

Burris and Copeland are out of sync this season. That is probably why Copeland is having a bad season so far.

Is Howell playing or Curry? I don't see any difference but so far I am not impressed with Nate Curry at all. The guy needs to lose some weight.

Man our D has really shown up for this game, with the exception of A.J. Harris running at will. I still don't understand why some games we just completely give up on using Joffrey Reynolds. Offense needs to pick it up.

I think it is a fumble but hopefully the referee will see it differently.

Too drunk to identify sarcasm via text.

Man is our D playing well. Hopefully Armour comes back, he is probably my favourite Stampeder.

Stamps escaped with just giving up the field goal after the fumble 21-20 Calgary. Defense stepped it up again with a few QB pressures.

Calgary with a two and out. Don't understand why Burris keeps passing the ball. Use Reynolds then start throwing short passes then maybe a long bomb later.

End of the third quarter 21-20 Calgary.

Come on boys keep on pressuring Ricky Ray!! It is time for the offense to start clicking. Go to Lewis, Ralph and Rambo and forget about Copeland and especially Curry.

Horrible coaching, they have no time of possession in the second half because they refuse to give Reynolds the football. Defense is tired big time and it will cost them the game.

And its not like the passing game is working anyway.

Lewis is defintely hurting because those type of passes are catchable for him. But because he is hurting he couldn't stretch on that play.

Kamau is back to his old self again dropping the ball. I remember him dropping the ball a lot while with Stampeders and TiCats. Edmonton challenged the call.

Ken Lazaruk ruled it fumble. Calgary ball.

Touchdown!!!! Calgary scored a 9 yard TD pass from Burris to Jermaine Copeland.

Calgary 28-20.
