richest player in the NFL
The Atlanta Falcons star quarterback signed a 10-year, $130-million US contract extension Thursday that guarantees him an NFL-record $37 million in bonuses.
Wowza! I think that's a pretty dangerous deal considering the type of QB Vick is. Very athletic, loves to scramble and run the ball himself...I don't know if he's injury prone, but the way he plays can make him open to a lot of hits. I think he's an amazing player, but I hope this contract doesn't come back to bite Atlanta in the ass.

I guess it makes sense because he is young and has so much potential to be great but from what I have seen he is way to inconsistent to warratn a deal like this. He is at best the 3rd best quarterback in the league and more likely around the 5th-7th.

Does the NFL not have insurance on players making large sums of money?

7th? gulp...3rd?
I'd say he's barely in the top half in the league.
QB's who are better QB's than Vick right now....
Brees
Manning
McNair
Carr
Pennington
Brady
Favre
Culpepper
Brooks
McNabb
Brady
Leftwich
That's just off the top of my head....all guys I would take as my QB before Vick with ZERO hesitation.

He's great at running the ball, he's average at the other important QB stuff, you know......passing. I'm amazed he got a contract this big.

Well I would say that Manning and McNabb are definately better. Brady, Culpepper, Pennington and Favre are better as well. I think that Vick is better than anyone else listed putting him 7th.

Haha, do you guys know what makes him worth it? Look at how the falcons did last season without Vick and how they did with him. Look at this season of how they do with Vick and how crappy they're doing today without him. He's paid to win games, which he does, he may not get 300 yards and 4 passing TD's every game like Culpepper or Manning, but he's 24 years old and can win games in other ways. He might even break 1,000 yards rushing as a QB and break another rushing QB record. He'll be worth every penny, take a look back at how Manning, McNabb and other elite QB's were at 24 and how they are now. He'll get used to the WCO and dominate even more than he already is.
The key to winning is clock management, and how do you do that? You run the ball and take time off of it. Teams would LOVE to have 2 capable running backs and a QB that can get 1,000 yards every season, they can basically run out 75% of every quarter if used correctly. I bet they beat the Eagles in the playoffs!

I'll take that bet.
He may well improve...and he is certainly extremely valuable to the Falcons. But he is not a great NFL QB at this point, and is not worth $100M to ANY team.
I've been watching this game for 30 years and Vick is nothing more than a footnote at this point. He doesn't compare to the all time greats at the same points in their careers.
If running the ball with your QB was such an enviable weapon in the NFL as you suggest, I'd think that someone other than the Falcons would've picked up on it long before now. QB mobility is without a doubt an enviable weapon. Running the ball with him outside of the passing game is counterproductive in the long run.
When's the last time an NFL team employed the wishbone on a regular basis?
I think you're out to lunch.

The fact remains the Falcons cannot win without Micheal Vick, so I guess they're paying 13 million a season to win games and go to the playoffs, sounds like a good investment to me!

Who else was going to offer Vick that kind of money?
I guess since the Flames can't win games without Miikka Kiprusoff they should've offered him a $100M contract by your logic.
It's only a good investment if they were going to lose him. No chance somebody else offers him that kind of money.
